Pirelli gives the McLaren W1 cutting-edge tire tech.
Pirelli is responsible for many of the world’s premier performance tires, and the McLaren W1 is the latest in a legacy of hypercars that have utilized Pirelli’s tire technology to achieve their incredible levels of performance. With a hybrid powertrain that musters an incredible 1,258 horsepower, and a design that combines lightweight construction, track-focused aerodynamics, and gorgeous looks, the McLaren W1 is not just at the highest echelon of performance cars in the current automotive world, it’s part of a cohort that is carving out a new era of hypercar excellence.
The McLaren W1, combining immense power with speed-focused engineering, combines brutal performance with sustainability with its advanced hybrid powertrain, and thanks to Pirelli, so are its tires. Three bespoke tire fitments were made by Pirelli, exclusively meant for the McLaren P1 hypercar: a P Zero R, a P Zero Trofeo RS, and a P Zero Winter 2. The tires are all made from over 50 percent bio-based materials, which is part of Pirelli’s plan to launch tires that are 80 percent bio-based by 2030.

The P Zero R is meant for daily driving, while the P Zero Trofeo RS is meant for the track, and the P Zero Winter 2 is meant for driving in colder months. The development of the new groundbreakingly sustainable performance-oriented tires required painstaking effort, starting with state-of-the-art simulation technology offering virtual testing, and physical tests taking place on tracks like Nardò, Idadia in Spain, and Pirelli’s Sottozero Center in Sweden, in order to ensure the tires’ performance in various driving, weather, and surface conditions. With bio-based materials and Pirelli’s cherished tire know-how, the McLaren W1 unlocks a new level of sustainability and performance.
