No doubt due to the narrative-enhancing role of <a href=\"https:\/\/fastandfurious.fandom.com\/wiki\/1995_Mitsubishi_Eclipse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">the cop-purchased 2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse<\/a> and its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revell.com\/products\/cars\/mitsubishi-eclipse.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">Robo Car Aero Armor body kit<\/a> in <em>The <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/fast+and+furious\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">Fast and the Furious<\/a><\/em>, the second-generation <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/mitsubishi\/eclipse\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\">Eclipse<\/a> (and its Eagle twin, the Talon) built by Diamond Star Motors in Illinois became\u00a0<em>the<\/em> car to have by the middle 2000s\u2026 and the only way to improve on a full complement of flares, scoops, and wings was the conversion of the doors to use <a href=\"https:\/\/verticaldoors.com\/products\/mitsubishi_1995_1999_eclipse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">scissors-style aka Lambo<\/a> hinge mechanisms. You&#8217;d think a car so equipped would be sufficiently desirable to stay on the happy side of the boneyard fence (<em>Those are the doors of a billionaire, after all. -Ed<\/em>), but such was not the case with this &#8217;98 in the Denver area.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"grp-full lazy\" alt=\"\" data-original=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2021\/10\/29115857\/24-1998-Mitsubishi-Eclipse-in-Colorado-Junkyard-Photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>As we all know, there&#8217;s no point in going to the expense and trouble of installing <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/lamborghini\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">Lambo<\/a> doors in your Eclipse if you haven&#8217;t got a wing big enough to keep <a href=\"https:\/\/militarywatchmagazine.com\/article\/japan-s-elite-f-16-derivative-how-capable-is-the-mitsubishi-f-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\">a Mitsubishi F-2 fighter plane<\/a> aloft. Check!<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"grp-full lazy\" alt=\"\" data-original=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2021\/10\/29115909\/35-1998-Mitsubishi-Eclipse-in-Colorado-Junkyard-Photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>I find these graphics a bit too subdued, but then I&#8217;d have chosen a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoweek.com\/car-life\/classic-cars\/a1879211\/jdm-amg-yo-1987-mitsubishi-debonair-v-royal-amg-can-be-yours\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:11;\">Mitsubishi Debonair AMG<\/a> for customization in the first place.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"grp-full lazy\" alt=\"\" data-original=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2021\/10\/29115900\/26-1998-Mitsubishi-Eclipse-in-Colorado-Junkyard-Photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The body kit looks plenty mean, but hard times appear to have befallen this car quite a few years back.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"grp-full lazy\" alt=\"\" data-original=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2021\/10\/29115855\/20-1998-Mitsubishi-Eclipse-in-Colorado-Junkyard-Photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>A bit over 150,000 miles show on the odometer, which is non-shabby for a DSM product.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"grp-full lazy\" alt=\"\" data-original=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2021\/10\/29115850\/13-1998-Mitsubishi-Eclipse-in-Colorado-Junkyard-Photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The engine is the Chrysler-sourced 2.0 DOHC unit originally designed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutcars.com\/2012\/02\/junkyard-find-1998-dodge-neon-rt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:12;\">for use in the Neon<\/a>, rated at 140 horsepower. A 210-horse turbocharged <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/mitsubishi\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:13;\">Mitsubishi<\/a> 2.0 could be had in the 1998 Eclipse\/Talon, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8lPF5B64Cxw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:14;\">the real gone cats<\/a> added <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/6hxOoM0-NJI?t=143\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:15;\">14,000 horsepower worth of NOSSS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"grp-full lazy\" alt=\"\" data-original=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2021\/10\/29115847\/10-1998-Mitsubishi-Eclipse-in-Colorado-Junkyard-Photo-by-Murilee-Martin1.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Someone loved this car enough to put plenty of sweat and dollars into it, and I felt saddened to see it come to such a fate. If it had had an automatic transmission, at least I could have consoled myself that it was built entirely for show. Nope, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoweek.com\/car-life\/a37089195\/what-will-be-the-last-new-car-with-a-five-speed-manual\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:16;\">five-speed manual<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"grp-full lazy\" alt=\"\" data-original=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2021\/10\/29115839\/03-1998-Mitsubishi-Eclipse-in-Colorado-Junkyard-Photo-by-Murilee-Martin1.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/category\/aftermarket\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:17;\">aftermarket<\/a> wheels look rough, but they may have been sold anyway.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"grp-full lazy\" alt=\"\" data-original=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2021\/10\/29115841\/05-1998-Mitsubishi-Eclipse-in-Colorado-Junkyard-Photo-by-Murilee-Martin1.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>This car has been crushed by now, but perhaps the Lambo door hardware got sliced out before then.<\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=\"rbyvQByMn0g\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi_webp\/rbyvQByMn0g\/maxresdefault.webp');\"\/>\n<p>So fast, it destroys wholesome farmhouses.
