{"id":12858,"date":"2021-11-03T09:03:55","date_gmt":"2021-11-03T13:03:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/auto\/?p=12858"},"modified":"2021-11-03T09:03:55","modified_gmt":"2021-11-03T13:03:55","slug":"1134050_fisker-ocean-will-use-catl-cells-charge-at-more-than-250-kw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=12858","title":{"rendered":"Fisker Ocean will use CATL cells, charge at more than 250 kw"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fisker and CATL on Tuesday announced a battery-supply deal for the Fisker Ocean electric SUV, which Fisker said is on track for a November 2022 production start.<\/p>\n<p>Under the terms of the agreement, CATL will supply two battery packs for the Ocean and a total of 5 gigawatt-hours of cells annually from 2023 to 2025, Fisker said in a press release.<\/p>\n<p>The two packs include a &#8220;high-capacity&#8221; pack using lithium nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) chemistry and a &#8220;high-value&#8221; pack using lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry. Fisker said it&#8217;s been working with CATL since 2020 on battery pack integration for the Ocean.<\/p>\n<p>Both packs will also support charging at a peak of more than 250 kw, Fisker confirmed. They&#8217;re also designed to be supplementary charged through the solar roof Fisker previously confirmed for the Ocean. Fisker previously announced a deal with Electrify America for fast charging, but didn&#8217;t say whether that would include complimentary charging for customers.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper first_wrapper\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100730271_m\" title=\"Fisker Ocean\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"Fisker Ocean\" width=\"640\" height=\"408\" class=\"first_image lazy\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"653\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/fisker-ocean_100730271_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/fisker-ocean_100730271_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/fisker-ocean_100730271_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/fisker-ocean_100730271_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/fisker-ocean_100730271_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/fisker-ocean_100730271_s.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Fisker Ocean<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Fisker revealed the Ocean <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1126612_ces-fisker-ocean-gets-a-37-499-price-tag-but-still-no-word-on-batteries-or-build-site\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in January 2020<\/a> and then targeted series production starting in 2022. The Ocean will be contract manufactured by Magna, which supplied its own EV platform after a deal to use Volkswagen&#8217;s MEB platform fell through.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">The Ocean will have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1132280_fisker-electric-vehicles-will-have-sharp-display-systems-class-leading-resolution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">display systems from Sharp<\/a>, whose parent company, known as Foxconn, is likely to build Fisker&#8217;s other upcoming (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1132253_fisker-and-foxconn-plan-30-000-ev-built-in-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more affordable<\/a>) EV.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">CATL has also said that it&#8217;s ready to make a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1128429_battery-giant-catl-million-mile-batteries-tesla\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">million-mile battery<\/a>, either for Tesla or for another automaker that&#8217;s interested, for a cost of only about 10% more than other current batteries.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">The firm also recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1133998_cell-to-pack-tech-battery-maker-catl-evs-hyundai-kia-genesis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">partnered with Hyundai Mobis<\/a> to use its cell-to-pack technology in future vehicles, and is supplying that same tech to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1133874_catl-cell-to-pack-tech-elms-electric-van-future-battery-swapping\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">startup ELMS<\/a> for electric delivery vans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fisker and CATL on Tuesday announced a battery-supply deal for the Fisker Ocean electric SUV, which Fisker said is on track for a November 2022 production start.
