{"id":12956,"date":"2021-11-04T12:03:57","date_gmt":"2021-11-04T16:03:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/auto\/?p=12956"},"modified":"2021-11-04T12:03:57","modified_gmt":"2021-11-04T16:03:57","slug":"nontesla-evs-blocks-tesla-superchargers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=12956","title":{"rendered":"See How Non-Tesla EVs Block Tesla Superchargers Now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The fact that the opening of the <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/tag\/tesla-supercharging\/\">Tesla Supercharging<\/a> stations to other EVs will cause issues related to the <span class=\"sentence corrected\"><span class=\"correction ac\" data-start-index=\"122\" data-end-index=\"130\" data-type=\"Grammar\">station <\/span><\/span>layout and short cables (designed for a specific location of charging port on <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/tesla\/\">Tesla<\/a> cars &#8211; in the left rear corner) was known for a long time.<\/p>\n<p>Since Tesla <span class=\"sentence corrected\"><span class=\"correction sac\" data-start-index=\"20\" data-end-index=\"26\" data-type=\"Spelling\">opened<\/span> <\/span>10 stations in the Netherlands under <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/544720\/netherlands-superchargers-non-tesla-allowed\/\">the <strong>Non-Tesla Supercharger Pilot<\/strong><\/a>, we saw multiple examples of what might go wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the company saying that its ambition is to offer fast-charging to all EVs, the &#8220;geometry&#8221; problem actually will significantly limit the access only to some models. At least until Tesla switches to a drive-thru layout or provides longer charging cables (like most other fast chargers do).<\/p>\n<section contenteditable=\"false\" data-widget=\"mosaic\" with the charging inlet on the driver-side rear corner, but because the cable is very short, it requires parking in reverse.<\/p>\n<p>It means that only cars with the same charging port location (and cars with the charging port on the passenger-side front when parking forwards), will get access to the Supercharger designated for a particular parking spot.<\/p>\n<p>Other EVs, which happens to be in the majority, will have to either cross the lines of a single parking spot (in various ways) or take a charger from another spot (blocking two chargers as a\u00a0 result).<\/p>\n<p>According to the images, shared by <span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">Michael Hsu<\/span>, only a few <span class=\"sentence corrected\"><span class=\"correction ac\" data-start-index=\"54\" data-end-index=\"68\" data-type=\"Punctuation\">brands produce<\/span><\/span>\u00a0EVs with the charging port location the same as Tesla:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>FCA&#8217;s (currently Stellantis): Peugeot, Citro\u00ebn, Opel, DS<\/li>\n<li>Polestar<\/li>\n<li>Volvo<\/li>\n<li>outgoing Hyundai IONIQ Electric<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When parking forwards, other compatible cars could include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Porsche Taycan\/Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo<\/li>\n<li>Audi e-tron GT<\/li>\n<li>potentially upcoming Renault Megane,<\/li>\n<li>a few smaller EVs: Renault ZOE, Dacia Spring, Honda e, MG ZS (if the cable will reach it)<br \/>Nissan LEAF has a CHAdeMO inlet so it&#8217;s not compatible anyway<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<section class=\"embed-item\" contenteditable=\"false\" some Superchargers are installed in a way to be able to handle other types of EVs.<\/p>\n<p>Blocking of a stall is a serious issue not only for users, but also for the company. Tesla&#8217;s CEO Elon Musk pointed out once that the increase of charging power translates into faster charging and a lower number of new chargers that have to be installed (lower overall costs). If a stall is blocked (or charges at low power), then the profitability would be affected.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, the company will see minor gains in revenues, but will potentially upset many of its customers. Serious investments and a new Supercharging layout appear to be the only cure if the network were to be open for all.<\/p>\n<p>Audi e-tron &#8211; <span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"pl\" data-phrase-index=\"0\" data-number-of-phrases=\"1\">perpendicular parking<\/span><\/span> and
