{"id":13025,"date":"2021-11-05T12:04:18","date_gmt":"2021-11-05T16:04:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/auto\/?p=13025"},"modified":"2021-11-05T12:04:18","modified_gmt":"2021-11-05T16:04:18","slug":"rivian-lawsuit-gender-discrimination-toxic-bro-culture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=13025","title":{"rendered":"Former Rivian executive sues EV builder over gender discrimination"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2021\/09\/28\/2022-rivian-r1t-first-drive\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:0;\">Rivian<\/a> executive sued the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/car-finder\/truck\/fuel_economy-electric\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:1;\">electric truck<\/a> maker ahead of its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2021\/11\/01\/rivian-stock-ipo-valuation\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">public share offering<\/a>, claiming she was fired last month after complaining about the company\u2019s \u201ctoxic bro culture\u201d and gender discrimination.<\/p>\n<p>Laura Schwab, who was vice president of sales and marketing at Rivian, and had previously , claimed she was \u201cabruptly\u201d fired after she complained about \u201ca textbook pattern of gender bias\u201d and discrimination from a top executive, according to a copy of the lawsuit shared by her attorneys. They said the suit was filed Thursday in a California Superior Court in Orange County.<\/p>\n<p>Schwab alleges Rivian violated the state\u2019s labor code, tarnished her reputation and caused emotional pain, according to the lawsuit. \u201cRivian\u2019s unlawful conduct also cost Ms. Schwab millions of dollars in unvested equity on the eve of the company\u2019s IPO,\u201d it said. Schwab\u2019s attorneys said they also filed a statement of claims with the American Arbitration Association on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Schwab joined the Irvine, California-based company in November 2020. She said she offered a $360,000 base salary, a 40% bonus, a $4,000 per month stipend, a $100,000 sign-on bonus, and $1.5 million in equity in the form of restricted stock units.
