{"id":13129,"date":"2021-11-08T11:19:57","date_gmt":"2021-11-08T16:19:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/auto\/?p=13129"},"modified":"2021-11-08T11:19:57","modified_gmt":"2021-11-08T16:19:57","slug":"tesla-to-deliver-electric-semi-trucks-end-of-year-pepsico-ceo-despite-delays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=13129","title":{"rendered":"Tesla to deliver electric semi trucks before end of the year, says PepsiCo CEO, despite delays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PepsiCo CEO Ramon Laguarta says that it is expecting Tesla Semi electric truck deliveries this quarter, despite Tesla saying that deliveries were delayed to next year.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-210202\"\/><ins class=\"adsbygoogle author_ad\" data-ad-host=\"ca-host-pub-5506057612223327\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-4655152367470280\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"\/>\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>While Tesla has been making\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2021\/07\/20\/tesla-semi-electric-truck-finally-go-into-production\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">progress toward bringing its electric semi truck to low-volume production in Nevada<\/a>, the automaker recently confirmed that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2021\/07\/26\/tesla-semi-delay-electric-truck-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">customer deliveries of the Tesla Semi are pushed\u00a0<\/a>to next year.<\/p>\n<p>CEO Elon Musk said it was due to limited battery supply.<\/p>\n<p>Now PepsiCo, who is one of the biggest buyers of Tesla Semi trucks, either didn\u2019t get the message or knows something we don\u2019t, because it apparently expects deliveries by the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Laguarta said in a new interview on CNBC that the company is expecting Tesla Semi deliveries in Q4:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>We are already starting to buy electric trucks from Tesla, we don\u2019t want to promote anybody, but that\u2019s the brand we are using so far, and we are getting our first deliveries this Q4.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>After the launch of Tesla Semi in 2017,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2017\/12\/12\/tesla-semi-order-100-electric-trucks-pepsico\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PepsiCo placed one of the biggest orders for Tesla Semi<\/a>: 100 electric trucks to add to its fleet.<\/p>\n<p>The company planned to use 15 of those trucks for a project to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2019\/10\/04\/tesla-semi-electric-trucks-replace-diesel-trucks-pepsi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">turn its Frito-Lay\u00a0Modesto, California, site into a zero-emission facility<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, PepsiCo said that it expected to <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2021\/08\/13\/tesla-semi-electric-truck-weight-on-point-crucial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">take deliveries of those 15 Tesla Semi trucks by the end of the year,<\/a> but that was before Tesla announced another delay to the program.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-electrek-s-take\">Electrek\u2019s Take<\/h2>\n<p>As we previously reported, Tesla\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2021\/07\/20\/tesla-semi-electric-truck-finally-go-into-production\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">has a facility next to Gigafactory Nevada for low-volume Tesla Semi production<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this summer, the automaker completed its drive axle production line, and it was in the process of debugging its low-volume general assembly line.<\/p>\n<p>While <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2021\/07\/26\/tesla-semi-delay-electric-truck-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tesla recently said that the first Tesla Semi deliveries to customers are delayed until next year<\/a>\u00a0when it will have more battery cell supply, the automaker is expected to have more pre-production units built at that facility for testing and its internal logistics needs.<\/p>\n<p>Now, it\u2019s not clear if Tesla is also moving forward with a test program with PepsiCo at its Modesto facility, or if the CEO is misinformed.<\/p>\n<p>What do you think?
