{"id":13311,"date":"2021-11-11T09:04:31","date_gmt":"2021-11-11T14:04:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/auto\/?p=13311"},"modified":"2021-11-11T09:04:31","modified_gmt":"2021-11-11T14:04:31","slug":"bmw-ceo-tesla-not-premium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=13311","title":{"rendered":"BMW CEO Takes Another Dig At Tesla, Says It&#8217;s Not Quite Premium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While the CEOs of VW and Ford have <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/545783\/ford-farley-talks-tesla-meeting\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22545783%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22ford-farley-talks-tesla-meeting%22%7D\">publicly acknowledged Tesla\u2019s EV lead<\/a> recently, BMW head honcho Oliver Zipse has taken a public dig at the US EV maker for the second time this year.<\/p>\n<p>In February, the executive <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/490358\/bmw-ceo-expresses-doubts-tesla-growth-rate\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22490358%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22bmw-ceo-expresses-doubts-tesla-growth-rate%22%7D\">cast doubt<\/a> on Tesla\u2019s ability to retain its EV crown in the face of competition. However, demand has continued to boom since then, with the Model 3 becoming Europe\u2019s top-selling passenger car (overall) in September.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Zipse has once again taken a swipe at Tesla, pointing out that quality and reliability are attributes that set BMW apart from the US electric vehicle maker.<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"9\">\n<p>\u201cTesla isn\u2019t quite part of the premium segment. They are growing very strongly via price reductions. We would not do that since you have got to last the distance. Where we differ is our standard on quality and reliability. Mind you, not even Hertz got any discount when ordering 100,000 Model 3 sedans for its rental fleet, according to Tesla CEO Elon Musk.<\/p>\n<p>In his statement, Oliver Zipse also seems to equate reliability and build quality with customer satisfaction, although the latter is actually a different metric.
