And that\u2019s reflected in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1120012_2019-subaru-crosstrek-hybrid-first-drive-of-17-mile-35-mpg-plug-in-crossover\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plug-in hybrid model, the Crosstrek Hybrid<\/a>, which returns for the 2022 model year with the same market proposition\u2014and a modest $300 price increase.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The 2022 Crosstrek Hybrid is only offered in two builds. The base model starts at $36,770, including destination; an upgrade package adds a moonroof, navigation system, Harman Kardon audio, and a heated steering wheel for $2,500, bringing the total to $39,270.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The EPA hasn\u2019t posted updated numbers for the 2022 Crosstrek Hybrid, but the 2021 model is rated at 17 all-electric miles, with an EPA 36 mpg city, 34 highway, 35 combined\u2014and an estimated 480-mile range based on the combined figure.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper first_wrapper\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100814828_m\" title=\"2023 Subaru Solterra\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2023 Subaru Solterra\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" class=\"first_image lazy\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"576\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/subaru_100814828_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/subaru_100814828_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/subaru_100814828_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/subaru_100814828_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/subaru_100814828_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/subaru_100814828_s.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2023 Subaru Solterra<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">With the arrival of Subaru\u2019s first mass-produced electric car, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1134131_2023-subaru-solterra-bows-no-yoke-for-boxer-brands-first-mainstream-ev\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Solterra<\/a>, expected within a few months, the Crosstrek Hybrid could provide shoppers with another option if they\u2019re not completely ready to make the leap to all-electric yet.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">That said, the Crosstrek has been a very low-volume vehicle, selling almost entirely in California-emissions states where ZEV mandates and their credit-based system effectively require a certain ratio of plug-in models.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Under the federal EV tax credit at present, the Crosstrek Hybrid qualifies for $4,502, while Subaru points out that some states offer additional rebates of up to $1,500. If you\u2019re fortunate enough to be able to claim both, that brings the effective price near $30,000\u2014roughly the same price as a top-level non-electrified Crosstrek Limited.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper\" readability=\"7\"><img decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100772310_m\" title=\"2021 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2021 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"576\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2021-subaru-crosstrek-hybrid_100772310_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/2021-subaru-crosstrek-hybrid_100772310_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2021-subaru-crosstrek-hybrid_100772310_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2021-subaru-crosstrek-hybrid_100772310_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/2021-subaru-crosstrek-hybrid_100772310_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/2021-subaru-crosstrek-hybrid_100772310_s.jpg\" class=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2021 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">As with the Limited, the Crosstrek Hybrid includes an extra set of active-safety items you don\u2019t find in the rest of the Crosstrek lineup, with reverse automatic emergency braking, blind-spot detection, and a rear cross-traffic alert system. It also includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a well-rounded list of convenience features.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Crosstrek Hybrid was introduced for the 2019 model year, and was a mammoth improvement over the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1106428_subaru-crosstrek-hybrid-discontinued-for-2017-model-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previous Crosstrek Hybrid<\/a>. But the current model hasn\u2019t changed much since then. Its hybrid system makes a Subaru 2.0-liter flat-4 engine part of a Toyota-derived hybrid system\u2014although the Crosstrek Hybrid has a mechanical all-wheel-drive system (a strategy used in some luxury-brand PHEVs) instead of the over-the-road system, with a rear motor, that other AWD hybrids such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1133576_tested-2021-toyota-rav4-prime-is-better-off-road-with-ev-mode\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Toyota\u2019s RAV4 Prime<\/a> include.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Like other Crosstreks, the Hybrid includes X-Mode controls that help allow traction (and power) to get where it can best be used in slippery, steep, or uneven conditions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper\" readability=\"7\"><img decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100679656_m\" title=\"2019 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2019 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"682\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2019-subaru-crosstrek_100679656_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/2019-subaru-crosstrek_100679656_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2019-subaru-crosstrek_100679656_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2019-subaru-crosstrek_100679656_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/2019-subaru-crosstrek_100679656_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/2019-subaru-crosstrek_100679656_s.jpg\" class=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2019 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">With an 8.8-kwh battery pack, the Crosstrek Hybrid charges up in five hours on 120-volt AC, or in about 2.5 hours at 240 volts with a Level 2 home or commercial charger.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Subaru said that it gave the Crosstrek Hybrid a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1130522_2021-subaru-crosstrek-hybrid-17-mile-35-mpg-plug-in-gets-ride-and-handling-retune\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ride-and-handling retune for 2021<\/a>, but we haven\u2019t had any time behind the wheel of this model since very early on, and we hope to provide a review update in the near future.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Will the Crosstrek Hybrid stay in the lineup? Subaru recently told us the model is here to stay.
