{"id":13609,"date":"2021-11-17T06:04:10","date_gmt":"2021-11-17T11:04:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/auto\/?p=13609"},"modified":"2021-11-17T06:04:10","modified_gmt":"2021-11-17T11:04:10","slug":"volta-zero-prototype-enters-production","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=13609","title":{"rendered":"Volta Zero Road-Going Prototype Enters Production In The UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Volta Trucks, the Swedish full-electric commercial vehicle manufacturer, has started production of the first road-going <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/545194\/volta-zero-electric-truck-final\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22545194%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22volta-zero-electric-truck-final%22%7D\">Volta Zero<\/a> prototype vehicles at a bespoke facility in Coventry, UK. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dubbed \u201cDesign Verification\u201d (DV) prototypes, these vehicles will be made in a run of 25 units, with Volta Trucks estimating the batch will be completed in January 2022.<\/p>\n<p>From then onwards, the fleet will embark on a rigorous testing regime that will replicate a wide range of customer usage and delivery cycles. <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/482170\/volta-trucks-concludes-20-million-funding-round\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22482170%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22volta-trucks-concludes-20-million-funding-round%22%7D\">Volta Trucks<\/a> engineers will also take the Zero to the extremes of cold weather environments in the Arctic, hot weathers in equatorial conditions, and crash testing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The goal with all this is to validate the safety, durability, and reliability of the vehicle. The company will lend many of these production-specification prototypes to <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/446229\/drinks-cubed-first-order-volta-zero-trucks\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22446229%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22drinks-cubed-first-order-volta-zero-trucks%22%7D\">selected customers<\/a> for extended periods to be tested in their real-world logistics conditions. They will cover millions of delivery kilometers alongside Volta Trucks\u2019 own engineers.<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"15\">\n<p>\u201cIn August, the first Volta Zero rolling chassis started testing, and we\u2019ve already extracted huge amounts of data from that vehicle. We have integrated that feedback into the Design Verification prototypes that start production today. We now move into a rapid test \u2013 learn \u2013 iterate \u2013 develop phase. This is going to be far more condensed and intensive than a normal vehicle testing programme, given our ambitious timeline to start series production in a year\u2019s time, that is driven by customers\u2019 needs for zero-emission trucks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ian Collins, Chief Product Officer of Volta Trucks<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Volta Zero is the world\u2019s first purpose-built full-electric 16-tonne vehicle designed for inner-city logistics to reduce the environmental impact of freight deliveries in city centers.
