{"id":13742,"date":"2021-11-19T09:04:00","date_gmt":"2021-11-19T14:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/auto\/?p=13742"},"modified":"2021-11-19T09:04:00","modified_gmt":"2021-11-19T14:04:00","slug":"1132759_2022-audi-q5-e-tron-chinese-market-electric-crossover-debuts-in-guangzhou","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=13742","title":{"rendered":"2022 Audi Q5 E-Tron: Chinese-market electric crossover debuts in Guangzhou"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Audi on Friday revealed a new electric crossover at Auto Guangzhou 2021.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s sized between the E-Tron and recently launched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1131509_2022-audi-q4-e-tron-price-specs-review-photos-info\">Q4 E-Tron<\/a>, but it isn&#8217;t the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1065042_2023-audi-q6-e-tron-spy-shots-video\">Q6 E-Tron<\/a> that Audi plans to unveil in 2022. Rather, the new crossover has been badged a Q5 E-Tron, and it&#8217;s been developed exclusively for the Chinese market where it will be built by Audi via a local joint venture with Chinese automaker SAIC.<\/p>\n<p>The vehicle is hardly a surprise as it was formally announced in April during Auto Shanghai 2021, where Audi rolled out a thinly veiled concept version. Prototypes have also been spotted testing in the past year.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper first_wrapper\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100816066_m\" title=\"2022 Audi Q5 E-Tron\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2022 Audi Q5 E-Tron\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" class=\"first_image lazy\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"576\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2022-audi-q5-e-tron_100816066_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/2022-audi-q5-e-tron_100816066_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2022-audi-q5-e-tron_100816066_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2022-audi-q5-e-tron_100816066_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/2022-audi-q5-e-tron_100816066_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/2022-audi-q5-e-tron_100816066_s.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2022 Audi Q5 E-Tron<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Q5 E-Tron is based on Volkswagen Group&#8217;s MEB platform designed for mainstream electric vehicles, and is essentially Audi&#8217;s version of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1131975_2022-volkswagen-id-6-is-a-3-row-electric-crossover-for-china\">Volkswagen ID.6 X<\/a> (shown below), another electric crossover developed for the Chinese market.<\/p>\n<p>Like the VW ID.6 X, the Audi Q5 E-Tron measures roughly 192 inches in length and features third-row seats. The standard configuration will be seven seats but buyers will have the option of swapping the middle row with a pair of captain&#8217;s chairs.<\/p>\n<p>Three grades have been announced. The base 35 grade will offer a 55-kilowatt-hour battery and a rear-mounted motor rated at 177 hp. The mid-range 40 grade will offer an 83.4-kwh battery and a 201-hp motor at the rear. The range-topping 50 grade features the same battery as the 40 grade, but a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system good for 302 hp.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100789316_m\" title=\"2022 Volkswagen ID.6 X\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2022 Volkswagen ID.6 X\" width=\"640\" height=\"449\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"718\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2022-volkswagen-id-6_100789316_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/2022-volkswagen-id-6_100789316_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2022-volkswagen-id-6_100789316_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2022-volkswagen-id-6_100789316_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/2022-volkswagen-id-6_100789316_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/2022-volkswagen-id-6_100789316_s.jpg\" class=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2022 Volkswagen ID.6 X<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Sales of the Q5 E-Tron in China should start late this year or early next.<\/p>\n<p>While we won&#8217;t see this particular Audi in the U.S., the brand with the four rings plans many more electric vehicles for our market in its quest to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1132698_audi-to-launch-last-car-with-internal-combustion-engine-in-2026\">transition to a full-electric lineup<\/a> in the coming decade. The Q4 E-Tron arrives later this year and will be followed by the Q6 E-Tron in late 2022 or early 2023.
