Reports claimed the pause would last through 2021, but the engine is already back in production.<\/p>\n<p>Enthusiast website <em><a href=\"https:\/\/gmauthority.com\/blog\/2021\/11\/silverado-sierra-with-3-0l-duramax-diesel-lm2-engine-back-in-production\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">GM Authority<\/a><\/em> learned from sources inside General Motors that the straight-six is once again coming off the assembly line at the Flint Engine Plant in Flint, Michigan. There&#8217;s no official word on precisely what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2021\/08\/30\/gm-duramax-diesel-six-engine-stopped-production\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">the problem<\/a> was linked to and whether it was related to the on-going <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/chip+shortage\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">chip shortage<\/a> that&#8217;s wreaking havoc across the automotive industry. All we know is that the pause lasted for about two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Called LM2 internally, the six is available in <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/chevrolet\/tahoe\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">Chevrolet&#8217;s Tahoe<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2020\/12\/11\/2021-chevy-suburban-diesel-first-drive\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">Suburban<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2019\/12\/02\/2020-chevy-silverado-duramax-diesel-drivers-notes\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\">Silverado 1500<\/a> and in <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/gmc\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">GMC&#8217;s<\/a> version of these trucks. It&#8217;s also an option in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2021\/03\/10\/2021-cadillac-escalade-review\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">the Cadillac Escalade<\/a>. It develops 277 horsepower at 3,750 rpm and a V8-like 460 pound-feet of torque at 1,500 rpm in every application, and it allows these big behemoths to post surprising <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/fuel+economy\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\">fuel economy<\/a> numbers. <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/honda\/fit\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:11;\">Fitted<\/a> to a rear-wheel-drive <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/chevrolet\/tahoe\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:12;\">Tahoe<\/a>, the Duramax returns 21 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and 24 mpg in a combined cycle, figures that make it more efficient than a <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/chevrolet\/blazer\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:13;\">Blazer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Demand for the diesel-powered trucks is relatively high. While the shortage undoubtedly took a toll on sales, the Duramax represented 8% of <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/chevrolet\/suburban\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:14;\">Suburban<\/a> sales and 6% of Tahoe sales in May 2021. There are no other diesel-burning full-size SUVs available new so they have the market to themselves.
