Volkswagen dealers are now accepting orders for the new Multivan, which will replace the existing Caravelle, Sharan and Touran people carriers.<\/p>\n

The new model is priced from \u00a343,160 and will be sold alongside the current T6 Transporter, offered as a passenger car only, but doesn\u2019t use commercial vehicle underpinnings. Instead, the Multivan uses an extended version of VW\u2019s MQB platform \u2013 that\u2019s the one used by the Tiguan.<\/p>\n

The technology-laden new model welcomes a similar digital cockpit layout to the Golf and Caddy, making use of the latest VW operating system and a pair of screens.<\/p>\n

A plug-in hybrid (eHybrid) engine leads the line-up, with a combined power output of 218PS. Its 13kWh lithium-ion battery is housed under the Multivan\u2019s flat floor, saving interior space, and lowering the vehicle\u2019s centre of gravity to improve handling. The charging point is located on the right-hand side of the front wing.<\/p>\n

From launch, the front-wheel drive Multivan is also available with two four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines: a 1.5 TSI 136PS and a 2.0 TSI 204PS. Both are twinned with a seven-speed DSG gearbox as standard, while a\u00a0diesel will join\u00a0in Spring.<\/p>\n

The entry-level Life model includes 16-inch alloys, seven seats, two sliding doors with power latching, a Digital Cockpit with 10-inch infotainment system, front Assist and Lane Assist.<\/p>\n

Style models, which start at \u00a358,130 for the SWB 2.0 TSI 204 PS model, introduce LED matrix headlights, Discover Media navigation system, Park Assist, electric sliding doors and tailgate with easy open feature, and 17-inch alloys.<\/p>\n

A special launch edition – Energetic – starts from \u00a359,515 and is available only with the Hybrid powertrain. Additions include a Harmon Kardon sound system, privacy glass, 18-inch alloys, and panoramic glass roof.<\/p>\n

Volkswagen is expected to launch a\u00a0new Amarok\u00a0later this\u00a0year<\/a>, which will\u00a0arrive in dealerships by 2023.<\/p>\n
