As always, he added quite a bit of color (and humor) to his analysis. Tesla&#8217;s &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/evannex.com\/blogs\/news\/is-elon-musk-becoming-technoking-of-the-universe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"techno-king (Opens PDF)\">techno-king<\/a>&#8221; had a lot to be proud of \u2014 especially in light of another crazy year for Team Earth.<\/p>\n<div class=\"table-wrapper\">\n<table width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0196\/5170\/files\/Tesla-Quality-Control-Giga-Berlin.png?v=1643296522\" alt=\"\"\/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p> <em>Above: A look at Tesla Quality Control inside of Giga Berlin (Source:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tesla-cdn.thron.com\/static\/WIIG2L_TSLA_Q4_2021_Update_O7MYNE.pdf?xseo=&amp;response-content-disposition=inline%3Bfilename%3D%22tsla-q4-and-fy-2021-update.pdf%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"Tesla (Opens PDF)\">Tesla<\/a>)<\/em><\/div>\n<p>The auto industry, as many are aware, was plagued by a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/evannex.com\/blogs\/news\/vertical-integration-teslas-secret-to-overcoming-challenges\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"significant chip shortage (Opens PDF)\">significant chip shortage<\/a>. According to Musk, &#8220;last year was chip hell,\u201d it was nothing short of\u00a0\u201cchip drama central.\u201d Even so, <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/tesla\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"2\" data-params=\"%7B%22alias%22%3A%22tesla%22%7D\">Tesla<\/a> was &#8220;able to grow almost 90% while at least almost every other manufacturer contracted last year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So will the chip shortage finally abate? Musk\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/evannex.com\/blogs\/news\/tesla-s-elon-musk-outsmarted-the-chip-supply-shortage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"seems to think so (Opens PDF)\">seems to think so<\/a>\u00a0and made a pretty amusing analogy. He explained, &#8220;I think there&#8217;s some degree of the toilet paper problem as well, where, you know, there was a toilet paper shortage during COVID, and like, obviously, it wasn&#8217;t really, certainly, a tremendous enhanced need for ass wiping.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He continues, &#8220;It&#8217;s just people panicked&#8230; and got every paper you could possibly wipe your ass with basically\u2026\u00a0So [it was] an odd choice for people to panic about&#8230; if [the] end of the world is coming, having toilet paper is the least of your problems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So much like the toilet paper fiasco in the consumer goods sector, in the auto industry, &#8220;I think we saw just a lot of companies over-order chips\u2026 [but] we are seeing alleviation.\u201d In addition, &#8220;It&#8217;s not a long-term thing [anyhow] because there&#8217;s going to be \u2014 there&#8217;s a great amount of chip fabs being built, which is great.&#8221;<\/p>\n<section contenteditable=\"false\" draggable=\"true\" data-widget=\"video\" data-url-params=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"sizer\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAABAAAAAJCAYAAAA7KqwyAAAAGXRFWHRTb2Z0d2FyZQBBZG9iZSBJbWFnZVJlYWR5ccllPAAAABpJREFUeNpi\/P\/\/PwMlgImBQjBqwLAwACDAAOVfAw9\/ZDvcAAAAAElFTkSuQmCC\" alt=\"\"\/> <\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/u-Qx3FvpzTI\" data-src-param=\"\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/section>\n<p><em>Above: Loup Ventures&#8217; Gene Munster comments on Tesla&#8217;s recent earnings call and his forecast for the future (YouTube:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/u-Qx3FvpzTI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"CNBC Television (Opens PDF)\">CNBC Television<\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Tesla\u2019s CFO Zach Kirkhorn sees a bright future ahead. He noted, &#8220;As we look forward, we expect 2022 to be another significant and exciting year for the company. We continue to drive for vehicle volume growth at or above 50%, as Elon mentioned, and our plans show that this is actually achievable with just our Fremont and Shanghai factories.\u201d Meanwhile, Giga Austin and Giga Berlin\u00a0will surely accelerate growth\u00a0this year.<\/p>\n<p>On another front, once full self-driving is achieved, according to Musk, &#8220;if you run the numbers on robotaxis, it&#8217;s kind of nutty \u2014 it&#8217;s nutty good from a financial standpoint.\u201d He continues, &#8220;the cars in the fleet essentially becoming self-driving by a software update, [which] I think, might end up being the biggest increase in asset value of any asset class in history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Musk adds that transitioning from a \u201cdumb\u201d car to a robotaxi changes it from having,\u00a0\u201ca utility of perhaps 12 hours a week per passenger car to maybe around 50 or 60 hours a week [which is] a five times increase in the utility of the asset. [Yet] the cost didn&#8217;t change.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Musk also has high hopes for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/evannex.com\/blogs\/news\/forget-siri-and-alexa-tesla-is-coming-out-with-a-full-on-robot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"Tesla\u2019s robot (Opens PDF)\">Tesla\u2019s robot<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 internally nicknamed, tongue-in-cheek, Optimus\u00a0Subprime.\u00a0He believes it can outpace the company&#8217;s car business.\u00a0According to Elon, &#8220;The foundation of the economy is labor. Capital equipment is distilled labor. So what happens if you don&#8217;t actually have a labor shortage? I&#8217;m not sure what an economy even means at that point. That&#8217;s what Optimus is about, so [it&#8217;s] very important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the end,\u00a0there&#8217;s\u00a0plenty to be excited about in regard to Tesla&#8217;s road ahead.\u00a0According to the electric car company&#8217;s Q4\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tesla-cdn.thron.com\/static\/WIIG2L_TSLA_Q4_2021_Update_O7MYNE.pdf?xseo=&amp;response-content-disposition=inline%3Bfilename%3D%22tsla-q4-and-fy-2021-update.pdf%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"shareholder letter (Opens PDF)\">shareholder letter<\/a>, &#8220;While 2021 was a defining year for our company, we believe we are just at the very early stages of our journey.
