The marque, a Renault subdivision, is desperate to stay relevant in the electric era and, like Lotus, is looking to diversify from small petrol sports cars into more mainstream electric vehicles.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The GT X-Over will be based off the same architecture as the <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/features\/546819\/renault-megane-ev-first-reviews\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22546819%22%2C%22section%22%3A%223%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22renault-megane-ev-first-reviews%22%7D\">Renault M\u00e9gane E-Tech Electric<\/a> and will be the first of three all-electric vehicles that will transform Alpine into an EV-only brand. It will feature the M\u00e9gane E-Tech Electric&#8217;s single 215 bhp motor at the front but &#8220;will have a big surprise&#8221; at the rear. Hence it will likely be AWD and have over 430 bhp.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A performance-oriented crossover aimed at the more premium end of the market, the GT X-Over should go toe-to-toe with the upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/554784\/porsche-macan-ev-spied-interior\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22554784%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22porsche-macan-ev-spied-interior%22%7D\">Porsche Macan EV<\/a> as well as the <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/tesla\/model-y\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22tesla%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22model-y%22%7D\">Tesla Model Y Performance<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/ford\/mach-e\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22ford%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22mach-e%22%7D\">Ford Mustang Mach-E GT<\/a>. Given Renault as a whole have no plans to re-enter the US market, the odds of any of Alpine&#8217;s sporty EVs reaching North American shores are slim.<\/p>\n<p>Alpine&#8217;s Dieppe factory is undergoing a major transformation to prepare it for the electric era, and has been renamed the\u00a0Manufacture Alpine Dieppe Jean R\u00e9d\u00e9l\u00e9 &#8211; in honor of the man who founded the brand in 1955, some 20 years before it was sold on to Renault.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo had the following to say:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"16\">\n<p><em>\u201cOver the past 12 months, Alpine has succeeded in setting a new dynamic in motion and upholding its commitments. It can be seen today in Dieppe, where the future GT Alpine X-Over will be made, thus giving a clear vision of the future and solid prospects for the historic, industrial site.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Alpine&#8217;s ambition must remain high, where only the most passionate strive to be, those driven by the quest to attain perfection.
