The company saw growth over 165% compared to 2020 and holds the title of world\u2019s largest battery manufacturer for the fifth year in a row.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-224820\"\/><ins class=\"adsbygoogle author_ad\" data-ad-host=\"ca-host-pub-5506057612223327\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8939143170397121\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"\/>\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd., better known as CATL, is a global energy technology company and the leading\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2021\/10\/12\/tesla-supplier-catl-announces-5-billion-battery-recycling-facility\/\">EV battery manufacturer<\/a>\u00a0in China. As a supplier to major EV automakers like Tesla, CATL has plenty of clients demanding its products, helping the company grow its capacity of installed EV batteries.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to supplying Tesla, CATL also provides EV batteries to companies like NIO and Volkswagen and will soon be <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2021\/11\/02\/catl-to-supply-batteries-for-upcoming-fisker-ocean-suv\/\">providing the battery cells<\/a> for Fisker\u2019s upcoming Ocean SUV. Additionally, CATL has developed other battery technologies such as <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2021\/07\/29\/catl-introduces-first-gen-sodium-ion-battery-and-ab-lithium-sodium-pack\/\">sodium-ion cells<\/a> as well as it\u2019s own recently announced <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2022\/01\/18\/catl-officially-launches-evogo-battery-swap-brand-alongside-chocolate-inspired-battery-blocks\/\">EV battery swap brand<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>With so many battery technologies being developed, it\u2019s easy to understand how a company like CATL has become the world\u2019s largest battery manufacturer. In 2021 alone, CATL\u2019s installed power battery capacity was 96.7 GWh up from 36.2 GWh a year prior \u2013 that\u2019s an increase of 167.13%.<\/p>\n<p>You may also notice a battle between China and South Korea within the top six spots on the list, as <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/guides\/LG-energy-solutions\/\">LG Energy Solution<\/a>, SK On, and Samsung SDI claim spots two, five, and six respectively. CATL\u2019s fellow Chinese manufacturer BYD took fourth.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, Panasonic is representing Japan by taking bronze for 2021. Every other company in the world holds a piece of the EV battery pie that is less than 3% of the entire market.<\/p>\n<p>With a whole bunch of new EV models <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2022\/01\/10\/22-of-the-most-anticipated-electric-vehicles-coming-in-2022\/\">scheduled to debut this year<\/a> and beyond, the demand for EV batteries has never been higher. Who will claim the title of world\u2019s largest battery manufacturer next year? LG Energy Solution? Panasonic?
