And that easy operation also opens the door to serious utility possibilities, such as effortlessly carrying a second rider on the back.<\/p>\n<p>There are plenty of dual-passenger e-bikes out there to choose from, and this Valentine\u2019s Day might be the perfect time to take a look.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-225552\"\/><ins class=\"adsbygoogle author_ad\" data-ad-host=\"ca-host-pub-5506057612223327\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8858607207437960\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"\/>\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Several electric bicycle companies have come out with e-bike models that are either designed for two riders or can have a second passenger seat added as a factory-made accessory.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the ones we\u2019ve tested out.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-rad-power-bikes\">Rad Power Bikes<\/h2>\n<p>Rad Power Bikes is the largest electric bicycle company in North America\u2026 by a long shot. And so they know a thing or two about e-bikes, including e-bikes built for two.<\/p>\n<p>There are three models of e-bikes from Rad that are perfect for carrying passengers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2022\/02\/11\/radrunner-2-electric-bike-review-rad-power-bikes-most-fun-utility-e-bike-yet\/\">The RadRunner and RadRunner Plus models<\/a> share the same moped-style frame and long rear rack built directly into the structure of the bike. It also has a suspension fork, 7-speed drivetrain, and LCD display. <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2021\/07\/02\/radrunner-plus-the-most-capable-electric-bicycle-ive-ever-reviewed\/\">When I reviewed the RadRunner Plus<\/a>, I called it one of the most utility-focused e-bikes I\u2019d ever tried.<\/p>\n<p>Both can reach speeds of 20 mph (32 km\/h) and have ranges of up to 45 miles (72 km), though you\u2019ll definitely get reduced range with a passenger on back.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignwide is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IKYVtEJTOw0?version=3&amp;rel=0&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;fs=1&amp;hl=en-US&amp;autohide=2&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\">[embedded content]<\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>If you want to go even bigger, check out the RadWagon from Rad Power Bikes. It\u2019s a <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/Radwagon\">$1,999 longtail cargo e-bike<\/a> that has a super-extended rear rack. You\u2019ll want to add the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avantlink.com\/click.php?tt=cl&amp;merchant_id=3ea584b8-942d-4804-bba4-365e395d607b&amp;website_id=d8cb501a-c5ae-4e37-bc97-8c54add0467e&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.radpowerbikes.com%2Fproducts%2Fradwagon-4-rear-deckpad%3F_pos%3D1%26_sid%3D80a88ab8b%26_ss%3Dr\">Deck Pads<\/a> to make a cushier seat on back. It\u2019s a great way to carry a passenger since there\u2019s tons of room to stretch out back there.<\/p>\n<p>Rad Power Bikes is also known for its great service and its nearly nationwide Rad Mobile support, which can send a bike shop in a van to your driveway if you ever need help with bike maintenance or if you ever require a repair.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"juiced-bikes\">Juiced Bikes<\/h2>\n<p>California-based Juiced Bikes specializes in higher power electric bikes, which is exactly what you want when you\u2019re carrying a passenger \u2013\u00a0Juiced has three bikes that would be perfect for carrying a friend or loved one on the back.<\/p>\n<p>The most powerful (and most fun) option is the <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2020\/09\/23\/behind-the-scenes-juiced-hyperscrambler-2-e-bike\/\">HyperScrambler 2<\/a>. It offers a long bench seat, plus a super powerful 1,000W motor that sends the bike up to 30 mph (51 km\/h) speeds.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/Juiced-Hyperscrambler2\">$2,999 price tag<\/a> is a bit steep for many new riders, but it also comes with two batteries offering up to 100 miles (160 km) of range in pedal assist mode. You can add the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.juicedbikes.com\/products\/passenger-seat-kit?variant=31162578042944\">passenger kit <\/a>for $135, and you\u2019ll have a 28 mph (45 km\/h) electric bike that offers many of the same high quality parts found on the HyperScrambler 2.<\/p>\n<p>[Update: It looks like Juiced is including the passenger kit for free on Valentine\u2019s Day. Sweet!]<\/p>\n<p>If you like the Scorpion\u2019s step-through frame but want to go all \u201cHyper\u201d with the highest performance, the <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2020\/10\/08\/juiced-hyperscorpion-review-the-king-of-30-mph-electric-mopeds-right-now\/\">HyperScorpion<\/a> is for you. <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/Juiced-Hyper-Scorpion\">It\u2019s currently on sale for $2,599<\/a>, making it a nice compromise between the two.<\/p>\n<p>Last but not least, the base-level Scrambler <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/Juiced-Scrambler\">costs just $1,799<\/a> but still offers great performance specs, and that long bench seat that makes it perfect for carrying a passenger!<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"ariel-rider\">Ariel Rider<\/h2>\n<p>Ariel Rider is another high power electric bicycle company, and they\u2019re known for a great balance between reasonable prices and impressive specs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2021\/11\/22\/ariel-rider-grizzly-review-a-3700-watt-dual-battery-full-suspension-electric-moped\/\">The Ariel Rider Grizzly<\/a> is the craziest of all of Ariel\u2019s models, and it will get you well above 30 mph (51 km\/h) even with a passenger on back. By yourself, speeds of up to 35 mph (56 km\/h) are doable. <\/p>\n<p>The 3,700 watt e-bike also features dual motors, dual suspension and dual batteries for the highest power and longest range. You know, like <em>most<\/em> e-bikes.<\/p>\n<p>It also has full-suspension and looks the part of a true electric moped. It\u2019s definitely a crowd pleaser, and I loved it <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2021\/05\/26\/ariel-rider-x-class-52v-e-bike-review-having-way-too-much-fun-on-this-36-mph-electric-moped\/\">when I reviewed it last year.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"tern-gsd-and-hsd\">Tern GSD and HSD<\/h2>\n<p>You might have noticed a theme here \u2013 dual passenger e-bikes aren\u2019t cheap. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ternbicycles.com\/en\">Tern<\/a> won\u2019t turn that trend around, but at least you\u2019d be getting an amazing quality e-bike for your money.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2020\/12\/21\/tern-launches-first-28-mph-e-bike-with-class-3-hsd-electric-utility-bike\/\">The HSD<\/a> is the more affordable of the two and starts at just over $3,000. <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2020\/08\/10\/tern-gsd-g2-electric-utility-bike-gets-big-upgrades\/\">The GSD<\/a> will send you closer to the $5,000 territory depending on where you buy it and with what features. <\/p>\n<p>Both bikes come with mid-drive motors, hydraulic disc brakes, and high-end shifters. Some versions even have automatic transmissions \u2013 talk about fancy!<\/p>\n<p>The GSD and HSD are serious e-bikes designed for someone who plans to ride everyday, rain or shine, and replace thousands of miles a year that they used to do with a car. While Tern\u2019s models are more e-bike than many people need, they are some of the best dual-passenger utility e-bikes out there.<\/p>\n<p>I even had the chance to personally experience how much fun they are from the back seat when Tern\u2019s bossman himself, Team Captain Josh Hon, took me for a spin on one at Interbike (RIP Interbike).<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"An electric bicycle built for two? This Valentine's Day, check out the best two-person e-bikes\" src=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/09\/tern-gsd-passenger-e1595333592940.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"swft-maxx-electric-moped\">SWFT Maxx electric moped<\/h2>\n<p>This one technically isn\u2019t an electric bicycle \u2013 it\u2019s an electric scooter. There are no pedals on the <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2021\/12\/21\/swft-maxx-electric-moped-review\/\">SWFT Maxx<\/a>, but it still makes for an awesome ride with two riders. My wife and I had a blast testing this one out together, and she spent just as much time in the \u201cdriver\u2019s\u201d seat as I did.<\/p>\n<p>It is fairly small and lightweight, meaning it handles nicely and doesn\u2019t feel like a big heavy gas scooter \u2013\u00a0the only downside is that it only goes 20 mph (32 km\/h). While that\u2019s the same speed as all of the Rad bikes at the top of this article, it feels slower when you\u2019re on a motorcycle-like scooter. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/redirect.viglink.com?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rideswft.com%2Fproducts%2Fmaxx&amp;key=8c4bc9e1a75d6ab9526c10e56ac8edba\">But with a price of $1,999<\/a>, it\u2019s less expensive than many e-bikes while offering motorcycle-style hydraulic disc brakes, full-suspension, complete light package, storage areas, and a big, comfy seat.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignwide is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-0cihyoLwvU?version=3&amp;rel=0&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;fs=1&amp;hl=en-US&amp;autohide=2&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\">[embedded content]<\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Are there any other awesome dual-rider e-bikes out there that I missed?
