{"id":15640,"date":"2022-02-17T09:03:57","date_gmt":"2022-02-17T14:03:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=15640"},"modified":"2022-02-17T09:03:57","modified_gmt":"2022-02-17T14:03:57","slug":"pure-electric-ineos-grenadier-considered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=15640","title":{"rendered":"Pure Electric Ineos Grenadier Off-Roader Under Consideration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ineos Automotive, a division of UK petrochemical giant Ineos, is considering an all-electric variant of its new Grenadier off-roader.<\/p>\n<p>Company executives told <em>Automotive News Europe<\/em> that a battery electric Grenadier is one of the routes to achieving zero-emissions, in addition to the <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/542676\/ineos-grenadier-hydrogen-fuel-cell\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22542676%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22ineos-grenadier-hydrogen-fuel-cell%22%7D\">already announced hydrogen fuel cell version<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"11\">\n<p>&#8220;Right now, that will probably add a ton of weight, but the battery tech is changing. We do not know where the market is going.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark Tennant, commercial director Ineos Automotive<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It is not clear whether the UK automaker plans to offer both battery electric and fuel cell Grenadier versions. If you want to move loads it&#8217;s a bit of a problem.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Heilmann was referring to the fact that the weight of batteries cuts into the payload for commercial variants. However, there are some applications where a battery electric powertrain would make more sense, the executive said.<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"8\">\n<p>&#8220;There will be off highway, specialist applications where range does not play a role, the mining industry for example but it&#8217;s very specific.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ineos plans to launch production of the Grenadier with gasoline and diesel powertrains in July at the <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/337878\/mercedes-invests-589-million-to-build-compact-electric-car-in-france\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22337878%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22mercedes-invests-589-million-to-build-compact-electric-car-in-france%22%7D\">former Smart plant<\/a> in Hambach, France.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The company plans to sell two-seat and five-seat commercial variants in the UK and the rest of Europe alongside the five-seat SUV, as that will allow it to be classified as a small-volume manufacturer and escape the European Union&#8217;s strict 95 g\/km average CO2 limit. A longer double-cap pickup is expected to launch in 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>US deliveries of gasoline-powered Grenadier SUVs will also start in 2023, with the company to begin taking orders later this year.
