{"id":18252,"date":"2022-03-23T00:04:50","date_gmt":"2022-03-23T04:04:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=18252"},"modified":"2022-03-23T00:04:50","modified_gmt":"2022-03-23T04:04:50","slug":"suzuki-ev-investments-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=18252","title":{"rendered":"Suzuki Announces EV-Related Investments In India"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/suzuki\/\">Suzuki\u00a0Motor Corporation<\/a> signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the State of Gujarat, India to invest in local manufacturing of electric vehicles and EV batteries.<\/p>\n<p>The Japanese company is interested in spending approximately 150 billion yen (approximately 104.4 billion rupees or $1.24 billion) in the next few years.<\/p>\n<p>The plan includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Increasing production capacity for BEV manufacturing at Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited (SMG) by 2025<\/li>\n<li>Build a battery plant (land neighboring to SMG)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the case of Suzuki, the main topic is the electrification of small electric cars. The company has more than a 50% market share (passenger car segment) in India, which also means that Suzuki&#8217;s electrification efforts will be significant to the entire EV segment.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the Forum, Mr. Toshihiro Suzuki said:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"8\">\n<p>\u201cSuzuki&#8217;s future mission is to achieve carbon neutrality with small cars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will continue active investment in India to realize Self-reliant India (Atma-nirbhar Bharat).\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the mid-term management plan, <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/490389\/electrification-topic-suzuki-new-mid-term-plan\/\">released in 2021<\/a>, Suzuki is finally shifting towards electric vehicles. In the case of full-size cars, the company is expected to rely on its alliance with Toyota.<\/p>\n<p>One of the examples is the plug-in hybrid <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/tag\/suzuki-across-phev\/\">Suzuki Across PHEV<\/a> (launched in Europe), which is, in fact, a rebadged <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/toyota\/rav4-prime\/\">Toyota RAV4 Prime<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Only time will tell how well the electrification in India will progress, but from our perspective, it&#8217;s a big opportunity to develop an entry-level all-electric model for India and potentially for export.
