Using our EV staffing expertise, we put together a guide to assist people and students who are looking to join this ever-growing industry.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3>Know the Basic Lingo<\/h3>\n<p>First, it\u2019s important to know the basic terminology within the EV industry to help you learn more about the vehicles and how they work. This will give you a good launching point for choosing a major, picking college courses, speaking in interviews, and more. Here are a few to get you started<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>ICE (Internal Combustion Engine):<\/strong>\u00a0A vehicle that is powered by a conventional internal combustion engine.<\/li>\n<li><strong>ZEV (Zero Emissions Vehicle):<\/strong>\u00a0A vehicle that produces zero tailpipe emissions under all possible operational modes &amp; conditions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle):<\/strong>\u00a0A type of electric vehicle that is exclusively powered by rechargeable battery packs with no secondary source of propulsion.<\/li>\n<li><strong>PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle):<\/strong>\u00a0A type of EV that combines a conventional ICE with an electric propulsion system (hybrid vehicle drivetrain) and can be plugged in to recharge the battery.<\/li>\n<li><strong>HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle):<\/strong>\u00a0Similar to a PHEV but it only charges through regenerative braking and\/or a motor.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>SOC (State of Charge):<\/strong>\u00a0The percentage of battery charge remaining.<\/li>\n<li><strong>SOH (State of Health):<\/strong>\u00a0The percentage of health left in your battery related to battery degradation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Regenerative Braking or \u201cRegen\u201d:<\/strong>\u00a0A mechanism that allows an EV motor to act as a generator to recharge the battery while braking.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Level 1 Charging:<\/strong>\u00a0Chargers that plug directly into a standard 120 volts of alternating current (VAC) outlet and supply an average power output of 1.3 kW to 2.4 kW. This power output is equivalent to 3-5 miles of <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/category\/range-efficiency\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"8\" data-params=\"%7B%22section_route%22%3A%22news%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22range-efficiency%22%7D\">EV range<\/a> per hour.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Level 2 Charging:<\/strong>\u00a0Chargers that operate at 208 to 240VAC and output anywhere from 3 kW to 19 kW of AC power. Can typically charge an EV in 8 hours or fewer.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>DC Fast Charging (Level 3 Charging):<\/strong>\u00a0The quickest way to <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/category\/charging\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"8\" data-params=\"%7B%22section_route%22%3A%22news%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22charging%22%7D\">charge an EV<\/a>, ranges from 200 to 600 volts of direct current (VDC) and beyond and can typically recharge an EV in around 30 minutes. Officially, Level 3 Charging doesn&#8217;t exist, it&#8217;s called DC Fast Charging, though many in the industry are calling it Level 3.<\/li>\n<li><strong>EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment):<\/strong>\u00a0The equipment involved in supplying energy to charge a vehicle, also called a charging station.<\/li>\n<li><strong>kWh (kilowatts per hour):<\/strong>\u00a0The unit of energy typically used to measure how big an EV battery pack is.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Stay Up to Date<\/h3>\n<p>Our clients love to recruit and hire people that are passionate and knowledgeable about electric vehicles and the industry that surrounds them.
