Over the next few years, the automaker will introduce a number of new technologies and manufacturing processes at the plant, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/tesla\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"2\" data-params=\"%7B%22alias%22%3A%22tesla%22%7D\">Tesla<\/a>-pioneered technique of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chargedevs.com\/?s=megacasting+\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow sponsored\" aria-label=\"megacasting of aluminum body parts (Opens PDF)\">megacasting of aluminum body parts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Casting major parts of the floor structure of the car as a single large aluminum part reduces vehicle weight and manufacturing complexity.<\/p>\n<p>Volvo also plans to upgrade the Torslanda plant\u2019s paint shop with new machinery and painting processes, which the automaker claims will reduce energy use and emissions. Construction will start in 2023, and the plant is expected to open in 2025.
