{"id":18373,"date":"2022-03-24T09:04:05","date_gmt":"2022-03-24T13:04:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=18373"},"modified":"2022-03-24T09:04:05","modified_gmt":"2022-03-24T13:04:05","slug":"1135402_stellantis-to-build-battery-plants-in-us-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=18373","title":{"rendered":"Stellantis to build battery plants in US, Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stellantis and LG Energy Solution on Wednesday announced a Canadian joint-venture battery plant to support future EV production.<\/p>\n<p>To be located in Windsor, Ontario, the $5 billion Canadian ($4.1 billion United States dollar) battery plant is scheduled to be up and running by the first quarter of 2024, making it the first large-scale EV battery manufacturing facility in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>The plant will have an annual production capacity of 45 gigawatt-hours. While this is the first major North American battery manufacturing investment by Stellantis, LG Energy Solution is already working with rival General Motors on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1132631_gm-accelerates-battery-plant-plans-hydrogen-fuel-cell-projects\">four joint-venture battery plants<\/a> in the U.S. Stellantis on Wednesday also said it plans to build a battery plant in the U.S.. ACC was formed in 2020 by Stellantis predecessor PSA Group and French oil giant TotalEnergies, and also includes Mercedes as an equal partner.<\/p>\n<p>While not a collaborative effort, Stellantis and Mercedes have also invested in U.S. solid-state battery startup <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1134302_mercedes-the-latest-to-partner-with-america-s-factorial-on-solid-state-batteries\">Factorial Energy<\/a>. Factorial claims it will achieve a 50% range improvement with its battery tech, and similar claims have led other automakers to invest in solid-state battery firms or launch in-house development programs.<\/p>\n<p>Stellantis is in the midst of a major EV push centered on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1132835_stellantis-confirms-plans-for-solid-state-batteries-4-ev-platforms\">four modular platforms<\/a>. Among the many new EVs promised so far are an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1133327_electric-dodge-concept-coming-in-2022\">electric Dodge muscle car<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1135190_ram-provides-glimpse-at-electric-1500-due-in-2024\">electric Ram pickup truck<\/a>, and a lineup of electric Jeep SUVs starting with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1133111_electric-jeep-due-in-2023-shown-for-first-time\">a subcompact due in 2023<\/a> (shown main). The automaker hopes to take most of its brands down the full-electric route by the end of the decade, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1135342_every-maserati-to-offer-folgore-electric-option-by-2025-phase-out-gas-engines-by-2030\">including Maserati<\/a>, Chrysler, and Alfa Romeo.
