{"id":18458,"date":"2022-03-25T07:40:47","date_gmt":"2022-03-25T11:40:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=18458"},"modified":"2022-03-25T07:40:47","modified_gmt":"2022-03-25T11:40:47","slug":"can-am-announces-it-will-launch-two-new-electric-motorcycles-for-on-and-off-road-riding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=18458","title":{"rendered":"Can-Am announces it will launch two new electric motorcycles for on- and off-road riding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brp.com\/\">BRP<\/a>, the parent company of the historic Can-Am brand, has just announced that the legacy motorcycle brand is returning to its roots with a new twist, coming back with two all-electric motorcycles.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-can-am-announces-electric-motorcycles\">Can-Am announces electric motorcycles<\/h2>\n<p>To mark the brand\u2019s 50-year anniversary, Can-Am will launch a new family that starts with two electric motorcycles.<\/p>\n<p>Can-Am fans may remember that the brand started with a bang all the way back in 1973, building a series of high-performance dirt bikes. <\/p>\n<p>The bikes and their riders clinched championships left and right, though the Can-Am ended motorcycle production in the 1980s. <\/p>\n<p>An early 2000s revival saw ATVs produced by Can-Am as well as other specialty vehicles like the three-wheeled Can-Am Spyder (of which BRP previously produced <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2016\/07\/11\/electric-can-am-spyder-concept-range\/\">an electric concept version<\/a>), but the upcoming electric motorcycles are sure to be a much more fitting reunion for the brand and its two-wheeled origins.<\/p>\n<p>The 53-second video clip below, released by the company today, gives a quick glimpse of where Can-Am started and where the brand is now headed with its electric future.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignwide is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe id=\"post-youtube-video\" title=\"A new Can-Am legacy begins in 2024\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/a_9b8WBZIHE?feature=oembed&amp;rel=0&amp;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\">[embedded content]<\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>As president and CEO of BRP Jos\u00e9 Boisjoli explained in a statement provided to <em>Electrek<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"11\">\n<p>With the motorcycle industry shifting to electric, we saw an opportunity to reclaim our motorcycle heritage and to re-enter the market. This new product category is extremely important to us, and we are thrilled that Can-Am motorcycles are the first EV models in BRP\u2019s electric lineup to be confirmed to consumers. Enhance!<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We didn\u2019t get to see any close-up shots of the company\u2019s upcoming off-road electric motorcycle, but playing with the lighting on the teaser image helps reveal a few more clues regarding the electric dirt bike.<\/p>\n<p>We also get a better look at the next two models in the lineup that are even further shrouded in darkness. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s hard to say if this announcement from Can-Am comes as a complete surprise. After all, <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2019\/02\/27\/bombardier-brp-alta-motors-assets\/\">BRP did scoop up the remaining assets and IP from Alta<\/a> after the famous electric dirt bike company <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2018\/10\/18\/alta-motors-closing-operations\/\">went under in late 2018. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>And BRP <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2021\/03\/26\/brp-commits-to-electrification-of-entire-line-including-jet-skis-go-karts-e-motorcycles\/\">has also already committed to electrification<\/a> of the brand\u2019s various vehicles from motorcycles to jet skis and snowmobiles, even showing off <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2019\/09\/11\/brp-electric-motorcycle-electric-go-kart\/\">early prototype examples.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For those excited for the chance to finally throw their leg over an electric Can-Am, you\u2019ll have to hold your horses a bit longer.
