Enjoy!<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"meta\"><span class=\"label\">Posted on<\/span>\u00a0EVANNEX on March 27, 2022,\u00a0<span class=\"label\">by<\/span>\u00a0Charles Morris<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve been hearing a lot about <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/tag\/electric-pickup-truck\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"7\" data-params=\"%7B%22tag%22%3A%22electric%20trucks%22%2C%22originalTitle%22%3A%22electric%20pickup%20truck%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22electric-pickup-truck%22%7D\">electric trucks<\/a> lately, and rightly so\u2014electrifying heavy-duty vehicles delivers a lot of emissions-reduction bang for the buck, and electric trucks in all classes are steadily becoming more economically feasible.<\/p>\n<div class=\"table-wrapper\">\n<table width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0196\/5170\/files\/Orange_EV_Portraits__0045.jpg?v=1647873677\" alt=\"\"\/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p> <em>Above: A look at Orange EV electric trucks (Source:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/orangeev.com\/orange-ev-leads-electric-truck-market\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow sponsored\" aria-label=\"Orange EV (Opens PDF)\">Orange EV<\/a>)<\/em><\/div>\n<p>Most of the media coverage of electric trucks focuses on well-known manufacturers such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chargedevs.com\/?s=Daimler\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow sponsored\" aria-label=\"Daimler (Opens PDF)\">Daimler<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chargedevs.com\/?s=Volvo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow sponsored\" aria-label=\"Volvo (Opens PDF)\">Volvo<\/a>, and of course\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/evannex.com\/search?q=tesla+semi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow sponsored\" aria-label=\"Tesla (Opens PDF)\">Tesla<\/a>. However, the former two are just beginning to deliver e-trucks to US customers, and the latter has been working on its Semi since 2017, but so far has not officially delivered any.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/orangeev.com\/orange-ev-leads-electric-truck-market\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow sponsored\" aria-label=\"Orange EV (Opens PDF)\">Orange EV<\/a>, founded in 2012, says it has deployed over 370 trucks to some 100 fleet customers in 24 states. According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/calstart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/ZIO-ZETs-Report_Updated-Final-II.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow sponsored\" aria-label=\"a recent report from CALSTART (Opens PDF)\">a recent report from CALSTART<\/a>, Orange has the most electric trucks in service of any currently active manufacturer (the ill-fated Smith EV has delivered more trucks, but ceased operations in 2017).<\/p>\n<p>The CALSTART report also notes that, as of the beginning of February, there were around 1,215 medium- and heavy-duty zero-emission trucks on US roads, and 140,000 more on order. The duty cycle of a terminal truck (aka drayage truck or yard goat) is right in the sweet spot for battery-electric propulsion. A 2021 report from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.actresearch.net\/electric-vehicles-charge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow sponsored\" aria-label=\"ACT Research (Opens PDF)\">ACT Research<\/a>\u00a0found that BEV yard trucks offer a lower total cost of ownership than diesel-powered vehicles, and predicts that adoption rates could exceed 50% by 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom the beginning, Orange EV committed to working closely with every customer to not only deliver a complete truck, service, and charging solution, but also to incorporate feedback to continually improve truck performance and uptime,\u201d said Orange EV co-founder and President Kurt Neutgens. \u201cAs a result, uptime for our latest yard trucks averages 98-99%, compared to legacy diesel uptime in the 75-80% range reported by our customers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCustomer data from hundreds of deployments has proven that fleets are saving money with safer, more reliable, emission-free trucks, even without incentives,\u201d said VP of Sales and Marketing Zack Ruderman. \u201cWhile early customers leveraged grants for initial purchases, over half of 2021 sales did not.
