{"id":18628,"date":"2022-03-28T12:04:00","date_gmt":"2022-03-28T16:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=18628"},"modified":"2022-03-28T12:04:00","modified_gmt":"2022-03-28T16:04:00","slug":"honda-electric-hybrid-crossover-suv-europe-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=18628","title":{"rendered":"Honda launching new EV, hybrid crossovers in Europe next year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/carbuzz.com\/news\/multiple-honda-trademarks-point-to-future-ev-names\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:0;\"><em>CarBuzz<\/em> dug up<\/a> nine <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/honda\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:1;\">Honda<\/a> patent applications with the European Union Intellectual Property Office that could signal a westward expansion of the automaker&#8217;s aims. Honda&#8217;s been showing conceptual <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/electric\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">electric vehicles<\/a> in <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/china\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">China<\/a> over the last 18 months. At Auto Beijing in 2020 we saw the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2020\/09\/27\/honda-e-concept-beijing\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">E:Concept<\/a> two-door <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/crossover\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">crossover<\/a>. Come the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/shanghai-motor-show\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">Shanghai Auto Show<\/a> in April 2021, the E had been shrunk to e for a redesigned, four-door electric crossover called the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2021\/04\/19\/honda-suv-e-prototype-electric-shanghai\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\">e:Prototype<\/a>. Then at Auto Beijing in October 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2021\/10\/13\/honda-en-electric-concepts-china\/#slide-2354748\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">Honda showed five EV concepts<\/a> for the Chinese market to be sold under a regional sub-brand called e:N; of those five, the first production models were to be called e:NS1 and e:NP1, both looking like remade versions of the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/honda\/hr_v\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">HR-V<\/a>. That&#8217;s the long way of setting the table for the EUIPO filings\u2014it&#8217;s expected the nine electric vehicle name applications from e:Ny2 to e:Ny9 would potentially become production EVs for Europe. The range of models on the way will sit on a trio of platforms devoted to front-, rear- and all-wheel-drive vehicles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Honda didn&#8217;t include e:Ny1 in the patent applications, which started with e:Ny2. Perhaps the first number was saved for conceptual use, because a few days later, Honda showed Europe an e:Ny1 prototype. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carmagazine.co.uk\/car-news\/first-official-pictures\/honda\/suv-econcept\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\"><em>Car<\/em> magazine says<\/a> it is pronounced &#8220;Anyone.&#8221; It looks like the HR-V that Honda sells in Europe and <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/japan\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:11;\">Japan<\/a> now, which itself looks like the e:Prototype Honda revealed in Shanghai last April. Honda Europe execs said it presages a B-segment electric crossover that will &#8220;be at the center of Honda\u2019s future product line-up&#8221; there, targeting &#8220;families looking for their first EV.&#8221; That puts it about the size of the Honda Jazz\/<a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/honda\/fit\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:12;\">Fit<\/a> on which the Euro HR-V is based. The crossover model is expected in 2023, sitting on a stretched version of the Honda e architecture to carry a bigger <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblotg.com\/tag\/battery\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:13;\" rel=\"noopener\">battery<\/a> enabling a longer range than the 137 miles possible in the Honda e, as well as &#8220;greater space, versatility and, range.&#8221; If it cribs from the e:Ns1 and e:NP1 in China, the European EV will fit a 68.8-kWh battery. In China, that pack is good for a 311-mile range.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Next year also sees the market launch of a <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/hybrid\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:14;\">hybrid<\/a>, C-segment crossover that will be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-news\/new-cars\/honda-confirms-small-electric-suv-hybrid-compact-suv-2023\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:15;\">about the size of the current CR-V<\/a>. It fills the space that will be abandoned by the new-generation <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/honda\/cr_v\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:16;\">CR-V<\/a>, which will grow and offer hybrid and PHEV powertrains.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve read that the e represents Honda&#8217;s eTechnology, the N stands for new or next. As for platforms, we know the front-driver is called the e:N Architecture F.
