The energy-independent aspects used to attract Republicans and Democrats almost equally.\u00a0 decade ago, As recently as 2019, a survey from Climate Nexus found that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1123355_politics-be-damned-electric-cars-arent-really-so-polarizing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">77% of Americans viewed EV positively<\/a>\u2014without a whole lot of variation across political affiliations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong><strong\/><\/strong>An extension and expansion of the federal EV tax credit in 2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1122547_ev-tax-credit-extension-gets-bipartisan-juice-in-senate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">had bipartisan support<\/a> before it was cut out of a federal spending bill due to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1126443_ev-tax-credit-extension-likely-dead-because-of-trump-opposition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cextreme resistance\u201d from the Trump administration<\/a>. A couple of Pew polls conducted in 2021 suggested that Americans are mostly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1132655_despite-partisan-divide-americans-see-evs-as-better-for-the-environment-and-want-more-solar-power\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aligned on the environmental merits of EVs<\/a> and that the vast majority support the expansion of renewable energy. And going back to 2017 the Brookings Institution pointed out that U.S. views on climate change had remained essentially constant since the Bush administration.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong><strong\/><\/strong>Despite this, Democrats haven\u2019t been blameless in exaggerating the divisions, as many made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1132657_no-climate-no-deal-evs-green-energy-infrastructure-compromise\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cno climate, no deal\u201d<\/a> a mantra (or ultimatum) in negotiating over details for the Biden infrastructure bill, which originally included more provisions for EV infrastructure and renewable energy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong><strong\/><\/strong>Is Congress exaggerating our divisions over EV incentives and renewable energy spending?
