The company&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2022\/01\/02\/corolla-manga\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">hot-selling small car<\/a> was already on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2021\/02\/24\/iihs-top-safety-picks-full-list-90-vehicles\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">the Top Safety Pick list<\/a>, and headlight revisions made in November 2021 gave it the coveted +.<\/p>\n<p>Qualifying for a Top Safety Pick+ award is easier said than done: eligible models need to earn a &#8220;good&#8221; rating in six crashworthiness tests, and they have to be available with a front crash prevention system awarded an &#8220;advanced&#8221; or &#8220;superior&#8221; rating in vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian tests. And, &#8220;good&#8221; or &#8220;acceptable&#8221; headlights need to be standard across the entire range, regardless of trim level.<\/p>\n<p>The last point is where the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/toyota\/corolla\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">Corolla<\/a> previously failed: the headlights fitted to some trim levels were considered &#8220;marginal&#8221; by the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iihs.org\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\" rel=\"noopener\">IIHS<\/a>. <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/toyota\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">Toyota<\/a> improved the most basic of the two headlight systems offered on the Corolla and rolled out the update in November 2021. Hatchback and sedan models now come standard with &#8220;acceptable&#8221; headlights, which is good enough for a Top Safety Pick+ award.<\/p>\n<p>Several small cars have already earned a Top Safety Pick+ award.
