The new EVs, which will include compact crossovers, will start arriving from 2027.<\/p>\n<p>Ultium is the name of GM&#8217;s EV platform and battery technology that debuted in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1129566_2022-gmc-hummer-ev-price-specs-review-photos-info\">2022 GMC Hummer EV<\/a> and has since made its way into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1129234_preview-2023-cadillac-lyriq-starts-brand-s-electric-slide-from-59-990\">2023 Cadillac Lyriq<\/a>. Under a plan announced in 2020, Honda and its upmarket Acura brand will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1132733_2024-honda-prologue-is-new-electric-crossover-based-on-gm-s-ultium-platform\">each launch an SUV<\/a> based on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1127691_gm-to-build-evs-for-honda-backed-by-bev3-platform-ultium-batteries\">current Ultium technology<\/a> in 2024. The electric Equinox, which will use current Ultium technology, is confirmed to start at about $30,000.<\/p>\n<p>GM and Honda also said on Tuesday that they will work toward standardizing equipment and processes to improve efficiencies, build quality, and affordability. This will extend to battery technology, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1132034_honda-to-go-full-electric-by-2040-use-solid-state-batteries\">eventually solid-state batteries<\/a>. Both automakers see solid-state technology, which promises lower costs, more range and faster charge times than current liquid-type batteries, as a core element of future EVs. In the case of Honda, the automaker has already established a pilot production line.<\/p>\n<p>GM and Honda have steadily increased their collaborative efforts over the past decade and in more recent years have focused on electric and self-driving technologies.
