According to the German manufacturer, the main reason for that is bottlenecks for semiconductors and wire harnesses.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of all-electric vehicle sales, the group reports sales of<strong> 99,100<\/strong> units in Q1, which is <strong>65% more<\/strong> than a year ago. It&#8217;s also <strong>5.2%<\/strong> of the total global volume.<\/p>\n<p>The bad news is that the BEV output is significantly constrained on the production side and the Q1 result is lower than in the previous four quarters.<\/p>\n<p>If only the group would be able to produce more electric cars, it would be able to easily sell them, as the order bank has increased to around 300,000 vehicles in Western Europe alone.<\/p>\n<p>Hildegard Wortmann, Group Board Member Sales:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"8\">\n<p>\u201cDemand for our all- electric vehicles is very high worldwide and our order books are thus well filled. The increase in BEV deliveries would have been significantly higher had it not been for the current supply bottlenecks. We are counting on additional highly attractive models and a successive improvement of the semiconductor situation to provide additional tailwind as the year progresses. We continue to have our sights firmly set on a BEV share of 7 to 8 percent for the full year.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The question is whether the Volkswagen Group will be able to maintain growth in Q2?<\/p>\n<p>Volkswagen Group sales:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>BEVs:<\/strong> about <strong>99,100<\/strong> (<strong>up 65.2%<\/strong> year-over-year)<\/li>\n<li><strong>PHEVs:<\/strong> N\/A<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Info about plug-in hybrid sales was not provided this time.<\/p>\n<section contenteditable=\"false\" draggable=\"true\" data-widget=\"special_image\" data-align=\"center\">\n<div class=\"spi_wrapper\"><a class=\"lightzoom\" href=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/custom\/volkswagen-group-bev-sales-q1-2022-a.png\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"custom-image\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/custom\/thumbnail\/volkswagen-group-bev-sales-q1-2022-a.png\" alt=\"external_image\" width=\"922\" height=\"428\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/a><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>For reference, <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/560278\/volkswagen-group-sales-2021\/\">in 2021, the Volkswagen Group sold a record number of roughly <strong>762,400<\/strong> plug-in electric vehicles<\/a> (<strong>up 80.6%<\/strong> compared to <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/465956\/in-2020-volkswagen-group-sales-plugin-cars\/\">422,000 plug-ins<\/a> in 2020), which is <strong>8.6%<\/strong> (new high) of the total volume (9,305,000; down 4.5%).<\/p>\n<p>The company was able to nearly double the all-electric vehicle sales to a new record of <strong>452,900<\/strong> and <strong>5.1%<\/strong> of the total volume (compared to 2.5% in 2020). The plug-in hybrid sales expanded by about 61% to nearly 310,000:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>BEVs:<\/strong> about <strong>452,900<\/strong> (<strong>up 95.5%<\/strong> year-over-year) and <strong>5.1%<\/strong> share<\/li>\n<li><strong>PHEVs:<\/strong> about <strong>309,500<\/strong> (<strong>up 61%<\/strong> year-over-year) and <strong>3.5%<\/strong> share<\/li>\n<li><strong>Total:<\/strong> about <strong>762,400<\/strong> (<strong>up 81%<\/strong> year-over-year) and <strong>8.6%<\/strong> share<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Volkswagen Group&#8217;s BEV sales increased in all major markets, but the fastest rate of growth was noted in China &#8211; by 360.5% year-over-year (compared to a slow start of ID. sales in Q1 2021).<\/p>\n<p>Europe remains the largest market for the group&#8217;s electric vehicles with a 59% share, compared to 29% in China and 8% in the US.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Europe: 58,400 (up 33.5%)<\/li>\n<li>US: 7,900 (up 16.2%)<\/li>\n<li>China: 28,800 (up 360.5%)<\/li>\n<li>Rest of the world: 4,000 (up 26.9%)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Total: 99,100 (up 65.2% year-over-year)<br \/><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/volkswagen\/\">Volkswagen<\/a> brand was responsible for the majority of the all-electric sales, with a substantial contribution from <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/audi\/\">Audi<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/skoda\/\">Skoda<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/porsche\/\">Porsche<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Volkswagen (cars): 53,400<\/strong> (<strong>up 73.7%<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Audi: 24,200<\/strong> (<strong>up 66.2%<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Skoda: 8,800<\/strong> (<strong>up 259.7%<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>SEAT\/Cupra: 2,200<\/strong> (<strong>down 1.4%<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Porsche: 9,500<\/strong> (<strong>up 4.4%<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Volkswagen (commercial vehicles): 700<\/strong> (<strong>up 7.3%<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>other (MAN): 200<\/strong> (<strong>up 7.0%<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Total:\u00a099,100<\/strong> (<strong>up 65.2%<\/strong> year-over-year)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<section contenteditable=\"false\" draggable=\"true\" data-widget=\"special_image\" data-align=\"center\">\n<div class=\"spi_wrapper\"><a class=\"lightzoom\" href=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/custom\/volkswagen-group-bev-sales-by-brands-q1-2022-bb.png\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"custom-image\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/custom\/thumbnail\/volkswagen-group-bev-sales-by-brands-q1-2022-bb.png\" alt=\"external_image\" width=\"922\" height=\"427\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/a><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/volkswagen\/id-4\/\">Volkswagen ID.4<\/a> continues to be the top-selling model in the group, followed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/volkswagen\/id-3\/\">Volkswagen ID.3<\/a>.
