For now, it\u2019s still just getting started, but once it ramps up production at the Gr\u00fcnheide, Germany facility, many believe it could give Tesla an unfair advantage in the European auto market.<\/p>\n<p>EVs are gaining traction across Europe, with new <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/category\/sales\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"8\" data-params=\"%7B%22section_route%22%3A%22news%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22sales%22%7D\">EV sales<\/a> accounting for around one in six light vehicles sold in Europe in Q4 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla led EV sales in Europe as early as 2019, though it has largely trailed Volkswagen and Stellantis ever since, save for a few individual countries. In 2021, Tesla held a 14-percent share of EV market sales in Europe, behind Volkswagen and Stellantis at 25- and 14.4-percent, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>But the recent opening of Gigafactory Berlin marks a major shift for Tesla. Where it was once shipping cars from its Gigafactory Shanghai to customers in Europe, it can now ship German-made cars directly to customers across the continent.<\/p>\n<p>The effect will not only increase the pressure put on other automakers in Europe (such as Volkswagen and Stellantis), but it will also increase the number of cars Tesla can deliver throughout the continent \u2014 while simultaneously freeing up Shanghai to increase output to China and neighboring countries.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to establishing Giga Berlin, Tesla already became the most-sold auto brand overall in Norway last year as detailed by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/autos-electric-norway-idCAKBN2JD0OI\" rel=\" nofollow noopener sponsored\"><em>Reuters<\/em><\/a>, with overall EV sales jumping to 65 percent in the country to make them more commonly sold than gas cars.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond individual countries, Tesla\u2019s Berlin facility may help the automaker reclaim the EV market in Europe, especially as other countries begin to surpass the same milestone.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/evannex.com\/blogs\/news\/volkswagen-scrambles-to-catch-up-to-tesla-s-focus-on-software\" rel=\" nofollow noopener sponsored\">Volkswagen<\/a>\u00a0could be one of the most affected automakers in the years to come, and Chief Executive Herbert Diess has been vocal about Tesla\u2019s growing dominance over the past few years.
