To combat demand, <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/ford\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"2\" data-params=\"%7B%22alias%22%3A%22ford%22%7D\">Ford<\/a> plans to ramp up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/04\/25\/ford-f-150-lightning-electric-pickup-could-win-first-mover-advantage.html#newsletter\" rel=\"\">production<\/a> from 40,000 units to 150,000 units per year within the next year.<\/p>\n<p>One of the best parts about the Lightning is that you can get into a base version for around $40,000. This week, GM announced they will produce an all-electric <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/04\/25\/gm-says-it-will-produce-electric-chevrolet-corvettes.html\" rel=\"\">Corvette<\/a> next year. Not many details were shared about the new Corvette, but we look forward to future updates and sharing with you. GM will also begin tying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/04\/26\/gm-will-start-tying-executive-compensation-to-electric-vehicle-targets.html\" rel=\"\">executive compensation<\/a> to electric vehicle goals, a move to highlight the company\u2019s dedication to EV adoption. Is it a coincidence that both stories came out this week? The deal marks one of the largest-ever purchase commitments for electric vehicles.<\/p>\n<section class=\"trinity-skip-it\" contenteditable=\"false\" draggable=\"true\" data-widget=\"image\" data-border=\"\" data-id=\"6356508\" data-title=\"\"><picture loading=\"lazy\"><source srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/mgl\/2NOEb4\/s1\/tesla-model-y.webp\" type=\"image\/webp\" media=\"(min-width: 1025px)\"><source srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/mgl\/2NOEb4\/s3\/tesla-model-y.webp 1x, https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/mgl\/2NOEb4\/s2\/tesla-model-y.webp 2x\" type=\"image\/webp\"><source srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/mgl\/2NOEb4\/s1\/tesla-model-y.jpg\" type=\"image\/jpeg\" media=\"(min-width: 1025px)\"><img decoding=\"async\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/mgl\/2NOEb4\/s3\/tesla-model-y.jpg\" alt=\"Tesla Model Y\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/mgl\/2NOEb4\/s3\/tesla-model-y.jpg 1x, https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/mgl\/2NOEb4\/s1\/tesla-model-y.jpg 2x\" width=\"16\" height=\"9\"\/> <\/source><\/source><\/source><\/picture><\/section>\n<h2>Neighbors Up North<\/h2>\n<p>The good news is that EV sales in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coastreporter.net\/national-news\/electric-vehicle-popularity-grows-in-2021-but-still-not-on-track-for-federal-targets-5287520\" rel=\"\">Canada<\/a> grew by almost 60% last year, with 86,000 battery-electric and plug-in hybrids registered. This equates to around 5.2% of all new registrations. Sounds like progress.<\/p>\n<p>The problem is that Canada is aiming for 20% of vehicles sold to be electric by 2026. At the current growth rate, Canada would only be at 15-16% by that point. If you are a reader and live in Canada, trade in that ICE vehicle and get yourself an EV.
