The <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iihs.org\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\" rel=\"noopener\">IIHS<\/a> tested it and found it lacking in a couple of <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/crash+test\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">crash tests<\/a> as well as in headlight and forward collision performance. As a result it missed out on getting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2021\/10\/16\/safest-suvs-iihs\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">Top Safety Pick<\/a> award.<\/p>\n<p>The crash tests that the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/volkswagen\/taos\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">Taos<\/a> underperformed in were the small overlap passenger-side test and in the head restraint test. Both ended up getting the second-highest &#8220;Acceptable&#8221; rating. Furthermore, the base LED reflector headlights on the Taos received the second-lowest &#8220;Marginal&#8221; rating. Furthermore, the optional forward collision prevention system only got the &#8220;Basic&#8221; rating for vehicle-to-pedestrian situations.<\/p>\n<p>The Taos did perform well in other areas, though. Every other crash test yielded the &#8220;Good&#8221; rating. Also rated &#8220;Good&#8221; were the optional LED projector headlights, the forward collision system&#8217;s vehicle-to-vehicle performance and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2021\/09\/16\/2022-vw-taos-car-seat-review\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">LATCH child seat anchor usability<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Taos competes in a part of the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/crossover\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\">crossover SUV<\/a> market with a wide array of competitors, and a good number of them have earned the Top Safety Pick award, and some have earned the Top Safety Pick+. Among the basic winners are the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/buick\/encore+gx\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">Buick Encore GX<\/a>, <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/kia\/seltos\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">Kia Seltos<\/a>, <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/subaru\/crosstrek\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\">Subaru Crosstrek<\/a> and <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/toyota\/c_hr\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:11;\">Toyota C-HR<\/a>.
