{"id":21815,"date":"2022-05-09T12:04:03","date_gmt":"2022-05-09T16:04:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=21815"},"modified":"2022-05-09T12:04:03","modified_gmt":"2022-05-09T16:04:03","slug":"ford-one-five-f150-lightning-trucks-made-is-40k-pro-base-model","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=21815","title":{"rendered":"Ford: One In Five F-150 Lightning Trucks Made Is A $40K Pro Model"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One in five Ford F-150 Lightning electric trucks produced at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan, is an entry-level Pro trim targeting commercial buyers.<\/p>\n<p>Automakers typically begin production of new vehicles with only the most expensive variants to maximize margins, but Ford is taking a different approach.\u00a0The carmaker is launching F-150 Lightning production with <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/reviews\/584432\/f-150-lightning-review\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22584432%22%2C%22section%22%3A%222%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22f-150-lightning-review%22%7D\">the $40,000 Pro variant<\/a> instead of top-of-the-line models that have starting MSRPs as high as $90,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Darren Palmer, Ford&#8217;s vice president of electric vehicle programs, told <em>Automotive News<\/em> that the carmaker already is building plenty of base models aimed at carpenters, plumbers and other business owners.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"9\">\n<p>&#8220;Fleets we will look after; they are the core of our business. Even though we could sell more vehicles, more expensive, it&#8217;s not about the short-term profit. This means that approximately 560 of them are Pro models.\u00a0With regard to the retail side, he said the Lariat trim gets a &#8220;<em>really high mix<\/em>&#8221; of orders; the Lariat starts at $69,269 including shipping.<\/p>\n<p>Palmer did not say how many reservations have translated into firm orders, noting that Ford is dealing with the 200,000+ reservations in waves.<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"9\">\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve done about three or four waves now, and that was the end of the 2022 model year. We saw a really, really high conversion. At the moment it would be meaningless if I said the number because it wouldn&#8217;t include those who held on [for the 2023 model year].
