It\u2019s my main focus,\u201d the Recording Secretary of the Toledo Area CAP Council and member of Local 1435 in Region 2B says.\u00a0 \u201cWe have a small part that is assembled at our Stellantis Powertrain Plant.\u00a0 Many of the pieces are made overseas.\u00a0 We would like the support to have more of those parts made in the United States, particularly in Ohio,\u201d Walbolt says.\u00a0 \u201cIt is an honor to be here to represent our membership and my plant.\u00a0 It is also a responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_32917\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32917\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/uaw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/wence-valentine-iii.jpg\" data-featherlight=\"image\"><amp-img class=\"wp-image-32917 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/uaw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/wence-valentine-iii-256x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"256\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uaw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/wence-valentine-iii-256x300.jpg 256w, https:\/\/uaw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/wence-valentine-iii-284x333.jpg 284w, https:\/\/uaw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/wence-valentine-iii-640x751.jpg 640w, https:\/\/uaw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/wence-valentine-iii.jpg 711w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 256px) 256px,  calc(100vw - 32px)\"\/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-32917\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wence Valentin III, Presiden, Local 774, Region 9<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Wence Valentin III, President of Local 774 in Region 9, knows that there is a lot at stake, especially for his plant which produces engines.\u00a0 \u201cWe represent about 4,000 retirees from my local.\u00a0 As a former benefits representative, I realize how important it is for our retiree members to be protected by prescription drug prices. Health care is also important for striking workers. In 2023, it is going to be a battle and we need to have all of the ammunition that we can to fight these corporations.\u00a0 That is very important to me and our membership.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Delegates head to Capitol Hill<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The afternoon was filled with lobby visits and meetings with the delegate\u2019s representatives.\u00a0 UAW CAP delegates applied the information learned in the meetings as they discussed the important issues on the Hill.\u00a0 The objective was to take current issues that affect labor and communities to the people that have been elected to help solve problems and hold them accountable.\u00a0 Union members have a voice and as activists, can help shape the narrative of laws and policies locally and and member of Local 450 in Region 4, lobbying is a highlight of the week.\u00a0 \u201cThe speakers were great, but I\u2019m very much keyed into talking to our elected representatives and holding them accountable.\u201d\u00a0 A self-described political junkie, Swartz is motivated to remind her elected officials about the importance of representing the members of their district who come out to
