{"id":22793,"date":"2022-05-21T09:03:48","date_gmt":"2022-05-21T13:03:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=22793"},"modified":"2022-05-21T09:03:48","modified_gmt":"2022-05-21T13:03:48","slug":"nissan-mitsu-kcar-ev","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=22793","title":{"rendered":"Nissan, Mitsubishi Motors unveil light EVs for Japan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KURASHIKI, <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/japan\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:0;\">Japan<\/a> \u2014 Japan&#8217;s Mitsubishi Motors Corp and <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/quote\/NSANY\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:1;\" rel=\"noopener\">Nissan Motor Co<\/a> unveiled their first jointly developed light <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/electric\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">electric vehicles<\/a> (EVs), aiming to draw more Japanese drivers to battery-powered cars by offering low-priced micro models.<\/p>\n<p>The two Japanese automakers, part of an alliance with French carmaker <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/category\/renault\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">Renault<\/a> SA, were once considered trailblazers in Japan&#8217;s EV market but have struggled to attract customers and face challenges from fast-growing newcomers such as <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tesla\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">Tesla<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m confident that (the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/research\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">new vehicles<\/a>) representing the alliance will be a game changer for electric vehicles in Japan,&#8221; <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/nissan\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">Nissan<\/a> Chief Executive Officer Makoto Uchida said at an unveiling of the new models in the western Japan city of Kurashiki.<\/p>\n<p>The automakers are hoping to leverage their presence in Japan&#8217;s unique market for micro &#8220;kei&#8221; cars, which account for nearly 40% of cars on the road in Japan.<\/p>\n<p>The three companies&#8217; alliance early this year detailed a five-year plan to invest $26 billion on EV development, including kei cars.<\/p>\n<p>Nissan, which produces the Leaf and the Ariya electric vehicles, will offer its first light EV, the Sakura, starting at about 1.78 million yen ($13,891) after factoring in a government subsidy, and with a range of 180 km (112 miles).<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/mitsubishi\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\">Mitsubishi<\/a> Motors, maker of <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/mitsubishi\/i_miev\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">i-MiEV<\/a> electric cars, will release the &#8220;eK cross EV&#8221; starting from about 1.85 million yen including the subsidy, also with a range of 180 km.<\/p>\n<p>Both automakers said they would start selling their new line-up of electric &#8220;kei&#8221; cars this summer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People who used to think that EVs are too expensive will become a little more interested in EVs and will be willing to give them a try,&#8221; said Riho <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/suzuki\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">Suzuki<\/a>, Nissan regional product manager.<\/p>\n<p>($1 = 128.1400 yen)<\/p>\n<p>(Reporting by Satoshi Sugiyama; Editing by Edmund Klamann)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KURASHIKI, Japan \u2014 Japan&#8217;s Mitsubishi Motors Corp and Nissan Motor Co unveiled their first jointly developed light electric vehicles (EVs), aiming to draw more Japanese drivers to battery-powered cars by offering low-priced micro models.
