{"id":22963,"date":"2022-05-24T09:04:37","date_gmt":"2022-05-24T13:04:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=22963"},"modified":"2022-05-24T09:04:37","modified_gmt":"2022-05-24T13:04:37","slug":"us-tesla-luxury-brands-registrations-2022q1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=22963","title":{"rendered":"In Q1 2022, Tesla Outsold All Luxury\/Premium Car Brands In The U.S."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The new vehicle registration data for the first quarter of 2022 indicates that electric cars take the US premium\/luxury car segment by the storm.<\/p>\n<p>According to Experian&#8217;s report (via <em>Automotive News<\/em>), <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/tesla\/\">Tesla<\/a> is now considered the sole market leader in the premium\/luxury segment with <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/585186\/us-electric-car-sales-2022q1\/\">113,882 registrations (up 59% year-over-year)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It means that Tesla alone holds 21.8% of the segment and other brands are also selling more and more all-electric or plug-in hybrids.<\/p>\n<p>An interesting thing is that Tesla has managed to maintain a high growth rate and distanced itself from the previous leader &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/bmw\/\">BMW<\/a>, which with 80,482 units is now over 33,000 units behind as &#8220;the best of the rest.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Almost all brands noted difficulties and supply constraints, which caused a massive decrease in deliveries. One exception is <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/genesis\/\">Genesis<\/a> (part of the Hyundai Motor Group), but it&#8217;s still a small player.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Registrations* in the US &#8211; Q1 2022:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tesla: 113,882 (up 59%) and 21.8% share<\/li>\n<li>BMW: 80,482 (down 3%)<\/li>\n<li>Lexus: 66,907 (down 17%)<\/li>\n<li>Mercedes-Benz: 60,632 (down 21%)<\/li>\n<li>Audi: 37,566 (down 37%)<\/li>\n<li>Cadillac: 29,840 (down %)<\/li>\n<li>Acura:\u00a029,260 (down 26%)<\/li>\n<li>Volvo:\u00a023,513 (down 20%)<\/li>\n<li>Lincoln:\u00a019,977 (down 29%)<\/li>\n<li>Land Rover:\u00a015,581 (down 39%)<\/li>\n<li>Porsche:\u00a013,262 (down 24%)<\/li>\n<li>Genesis:\u00a012,549 (up 53%)<\/li>\n<li>Infiniti: 11,740 (down 43%)<\/li>\n<li>Alfa Romeo:\u00a03,542 (down 32%)<\/li>\n<li>Jaguar:\u00a02,610 (down 36%)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Total: 521,343 (down 12%)<br \/><\/strong><em>* registrations data and estimates<\/em><strong><br \/><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For reference, <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/578184\/us-audi-bev-sales-2022q1\/\">Audi sold 3,252 all-electric cars in Q1<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/578585\/us-volvo-plugin-car-sales-2022q1\/\">Volvo sold some 6,018 plug-ins (including\u00a01,658 BEVs) in Q1<\/a>, which is a solid quarter of its total volume. <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/578576\/us-mercedes-eqs-sales-2022q1\/\">Mercedes-Benz sold 2,091 all-electric EQS during the period<\/a>, which is slightly <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/577484\/us-porsche-taycan-sales-2022q1\/\">more than the Porsche Taycan (1,925)<\/a>. BMW is ramping up deliveries of its all-new EVs so its <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/577512\/us-bmw-ix-sales-2022q1\/\">Q1 result is not yet high &#8211; 347 iX and 13 i3 and i8<\/a>. The list does not include\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/584174\/lucid-produced-700-cars-q1-2022-delivered-360-customers\/\">Lucid (360 units)<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/585446\/rivian-increases-production-rate-2022q2\/\">Rivian (1,227)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Soon, a few other brands will join the party, including Cadillac and Genesis.
