And it also confirmed that upcoming Buick EVs\u2014including the first one to arrive in North America in 2024\u2014will carry the Electra name, as part of a naming series.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong><strong\/><\/strong>The Wildcat is meant to convey design language\u2014not tech specs\u2014and collectively it suggests that Buick design might have recently shifted.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong><strong\/><\/strong>In early 2020, GM executives showed <em>Green Car Reports<\/em> and various other outlets a clay-model version of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1127353_here-are-10-of-the-electric-vehicles-gm-might-or-will-build-on-its-ultium-foundation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">modern Buick electric crossover<\/a> powered by its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1127342_gm-s-ultium-propulsion-strategy-for-evs-400-miles-or-more-up-to-1-000-hp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ultium propulsion platform<\/a>, and noted that it was wearing \u201cthe new face of Buick.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong><strong\/><\/strong>That was quite different than what Buick is showing here in the Wildcat, with a stepped-up look. The Wildcat combines some very sharp creases and pointed details up front with otherwise soft and graceful contouring and bodywork. Rear lights pull downward from the roofline, then outward to the corners, in three streaks of LED, while a soft metallic look marks the rear accents.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong><strong\/><\/strong>While there are plenty of elements in this exterior that we think would translate well to production, the excessive brightwork of the concept might not carry so well to the present. One of the wildest parts of the Wildcat\u2019s design are its seats, which look oddly bolstered and adorned with shiny brightwork. A full-length console splits up the spaces left to right, and it\u2019s not entirely clear whether that\u2019s space available for stowing things or whether GM sees this as dual-level battery-pack space.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100843414_m\" title=\"Buick Wildcat EV concept\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"Buick Wildcat EV concept\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"576\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/buick_100843414_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/buick_100843414_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/buick_100843414_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/buick_100843414_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/buick_100843414_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/buick_100843414_s.jpg\" class=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Buick Wildcat EV concept<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong><strong\/><\/strong>If this all sounds like it\u2019s harking back to another era, Buick also notes that the Wildcat EV concept is \u201cbuilt to be a platform for futuristic features such as artificial intelligence, biometrics and aromatherapy.\u201d The brand says that the concept would, for instance, detect the driver\u2019s elevation in heart rate and then activate Zen Mode, with dimmed cabin lights, massage seats, and soothing scents.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The brand underscores that this concept is something to take note of\u2014although certainly not necessarily production-bound. The brand has saved the name for \u201cinnovative, progressive Buick concept vehicles that pushed the boundaries of design and technology,\u201d it says. In 1985, for instance, it applied the name to a mid-engine, all-wheel-drive supercar \u201cdeveloped to showcase new engine technologies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong><strong\/><\/strong>Buick notes that its new brand identity will include \u201cnew typography, an updated color palette, and a new marketing approach,\u201d with remote vehicle access, wifi data, and safety services all included as standard equipment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Buick on Wednesday revealed a concept that it says previews \u201can expressive vision of the brand\u2019s new design direction\u201d as it transitions to fully electric by the end of the decade.
