{"id":23673,"date":"2022-06-02T11:16:41","date_gmt":"2022-06-02T15:16:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=23673"},"modified":"2022-06-02T11:16:41","modified_gmt":"2022-06-02T15:16:41","slug":"toyota-home-battery-pack-compete-tesla-powerwall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=23673","title":{"rendered":"Toyota unveils home battery pack to compete with Tesla Powerwall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Toyota has unveiled a new home battery pack to provide residential backup \u2013 a product that is going to compete with Tesla Powerwall.<\/p>\n<p>After Tesla launched \u201cTesla Energy\u201d with the Powerwall and Powerpack in 2015, several other automakers also got into the home energy market with battery packs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2017\/05\/18\/mercedes-vivint-home-batteries-solar-tesla-powerwall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mercedes-Benz launched its home battery pack<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2017\/06\/05\/renault-home-battery-pack-tesla-powerwall-competitor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Renault followed soon after<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now Toyota also announced its own home battery pack called \u201cthe O-Uchi Kyuden System\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"14\">\n<p>Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) has developed batteries based on the concept of \u201csafe, long service life, high-quality, good value for price, and high performance\u201d so that customers can use them with peace of mind. This technology utilizing many years of electrified vehicle development as well as on-board parts and units have been used to create the O-Uchi Kyuden System, a home storage battery system. Pre-orders for the system start today, and sales in Japan will begin in August through home builders and general construction companies.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Here are a few images of the O-Uchi 1756px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Toyota says that the system has a capacity of 8.7 kWh and an output of 5.5 kW (though they made a mistake in their press release):<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"9\">\n<p>The O-Uchi Kyuden System uses electrified vehicle battery technology such as Toyota\u2019s battery control to provide a rated capacity of 8.7 kWh and a rated output of 5.5 kWh. This ensures safety and provides a supply of electricity to the entire home not just in normal situations, but even during power outages caused by natural disasters.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The automaker says that its backup power system also works with a bidirectional charger to tap into an electric vehicle\u2019s battery pack if you need more energy.
