Companies try to innovate with their ideas, all while acting within certain limits.<\/p>\n<h2>The Life Cycle Of Cars<\/h2>\n<p>One of these limits is a vehicle&#8217;s life cycle \u2013 the time that passes between the presentation of a new model and the moment it&#8217;s sent out to pasture.\u00a0This cycle includes the reveal, presentation, introduction, growth, maturity, lifting, decline, and reinvention\/descent.\u00a0It&#8217;s the way of life for almost every vehicle on the market.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of cars, the life cycle is usually determined by the market.\u00a0In low-income countries, car generations last longer with cycles of over 10 years.\u00a0It is expensive to develop and launch a new generation, and consumers usually cannot afford large investments for new models anyway.\u00a0In mature markets or developed economies, the technology and efficiency of the plants allow car manufacturers to produce new cars more often.<\/p>\n<p>In Europe, North America, South Korea, Japan, and most recently China, we are seeing\u00a0new generations of cars on average every six to seven years. In short, it&#8217;s well past the established norms for a vehicle generation in a mature, developed market.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, during the same 10-year period there have been at least <em>two<\/em> generations of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/mercedes-benz\/cls-class\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22mercedes-benz%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22cls-class%22%7D\">Mercedes CLS\u00a0<\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/mercedes-benz\/e-class-sedan\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22mercedes-benz%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22e-class-sedan%22%7D\">E-Class<\/a> models, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/audi\/a6\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22audi%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22a6%22%7D\">Audi A6<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/bmw\/5-series\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22bmw%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%225-series%22%7D\">BMW 5 Series<\/a>. Updated Model S trims like P100D with Ludicrous Mode and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/news\/482516\/new-tesla-model-s-interior-plaid\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22482516%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22new-tesla-model-s-interior-plaid%22%7D\">Plaid<\/a> have kept the luxury sedan in the spotlight, but based on its sales record, it&#8217;s losing a lot of ground.<\/p>\n<h2>Competition Gaining Ground<\/h2>\n<p>The question is, why is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/tesla\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"2\" data-params=\"%7B%22alias%22%3A%22tesla%22%7D\">Tesla<\/a> taking so long to launch a new Model S?\u00a0Part of the decline in sales is explained by the manufacturing challenges facing Tesla that have affected production. It&#8217;s difficult to sell cars when the supply is limited, but other automakers are facing similar challenges. It&#8217;s noteworthy to consider that, in 2012, there wasn&#8217;t any electric competition for the Model S. It&#8217;s a completely different story in 2022. Meanwhile in China, the BYD Han EV sold 79,000 units, which is almost four times more.
