As you’re probably aware, it’s not the truck racing the high-performance car that’s unique here. In fact, performance trucks racing fast cars is something you might see at any drag strip on a given day. Instead, it’s the fact that it’s the all-new Ford F-150 Lightning electric truck, and there’s not a whole lot of racing footage featuring the truck to date.

The fact that the full-size “family and everything” hauler is proving its unreal acceleration against a Chevrolet Corvette C8 makes it all the more interesting. Do you think the F-150 Lightning has any chance of winning?

As more people take delivery of their Lightning electric trucks, we’re almost sure to see more footage of the pickup’s acceleration. We also expect to see the electric F-150 battling it out at the drag strip against a number of vehicles that certainly aren’t considered rivals.

Going forward, we can only imagine that there will eventually be a host of electric pickup truck drag races with the Lightning competing against the likes of the Rivian R1T and GMC Hummer EV, as well as upcoming classmates like the Tesla Cybertruck and Chevrolet Silverado EV.

That said, what’s arguably more important than a race against a Corvette or any of the above rivals, is seeing the F-150 Lightning compete against current gas-powered pickups. This is especially true of high-performance machines, such as the Ford Raptor and Ram TRX.

At any rate, the ~6,000-pound F-150 Lightning Lariat features a highly capable dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. In order to get the most power, you’ll have to choose a configuration with the larger of Ford’s two battery pack options. However, the Lightning Lariat in the video above has the smaller battery pack. Still, it cranks out 452 horsepower and a whopping 775 pound-feet of torque.

The Lariat with the Standard Range Battery starts at $67,474. Opting for the Extended Range Battery adds $10,000. The larger battery pack pushes the truck’s horsepower up to 563, though the torque remains unchanged.

The Corvette C8 is mostly stock, aside from an exhaust mod. The uniquely styled ~3,600-pound Stingray with its 6.2-liter V8 engine makes 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.

Now that you have all the information at your disposal, do you think the F-150 Lightning stands a chance?
