A <a href=\"https:\/\/vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov\/mid\/home\/displayfile\/80532849-df78-41d0-9c6b-ca62ca456c93\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:1;\">26-page Ford VIN decoder document<\/a> lists trims for the 2023 <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/ford\/bronco\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">Bronco<\/a>. There are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2022\/07\/19\/2023-ford-bronco-heritage-edition-spy-shots\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">four Heritage editions<\/a> (<a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/category\/spy-photos\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">spy shots<\/a> pictured) divided between plain Heritage and Heritage Limited variants, each available with two or four doors. But above that, and below the four-door <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/ford\/f_150+svt+raptor\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">Ford Raptor<\/a>, the document shows an &#8220;Oates&#8221; trim available exclusively with two doors. Posters at <em>Bronco6G<\/em> and at the <a href=\"https:\/\/thebronconation.com\/forums\/threads\/vin-guide-leak%E2%80%94-3-new-broncos.13150\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\"><em>Bronco Nation<\/em> forum<\/a> have made a pile of guesses and jokes \u2014 most of the latter having to do with being either out of touch or out of time, naturally \u2014 but no one appears to have the slightest idea about what the name represents.<\/p>\n<p>The safest guess is that Oates is a codename for the actual trim. The most fanciful guess is that <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/ford\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\">Ford&#8217;s<\/a> planning a road-legal production version of the Bronco Desert Runner, otherwise known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2021\/11\/01\/ford-bronco-dr-baja-race-truck-v8-multimatic-sema\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">Bronco DR<\/a>. That was a race <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/truck\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">truck<\/a> targeting the Baja 1000, packing a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 with more than 400 horsepower, a 10-speed auto, the transfer case from the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/ford\/f_150\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\">F-150<\/a> pickup, electronic locking differentials on both axles, Multimatic spool-valve shocks with increased travel and a set of <span style=\"font-size: 0.99em;\">37-inch mud-terrain tires. The 50 examples Ford said it would sell each cost in the &#8220;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 0.99em;\">mid-$200,000&#8243; range.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In between those two, posts have suggested a potential OTX connection and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musclecarsandtrucks.com\/shelby-ford-bronco-hinted-in-new-video\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:11;\">a Shelby connection<\/a>. On June 7, 2021 Ford filed to <a href=\"https:\/\/trademark.trademarkia.com\/otx-90710968.html\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:12;\">trademark the term &#8220;OTX.&#8221;<\/a> The category classifications include the same labels as used for Warthog and Sasquatch <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/trademark\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:13;\">trademarks<\/a>; however, the OTX application also includes the labels like &#8220;nature&#8221; and &#8220;<a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/electric\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:14;\">electric vehicles<\/a>.&#8221; As for Shelby, in July 2021 Bronco Nation uploaded a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=H-aZI4kZ4YM\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:15;\">video called &#8220;Shelby vs. Shelby&#8221;<\/a> that pitched a Bronco driven by off-road racer Shelby Hall racing a <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/ford\/shelby+gt500\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:16;\">Shelby Mustang<\/a> GT500 SE.
