{"id":29354,"date":"2022-08-16T12:03:57","date_gmt":"2022-08-16T16:03:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=29354"},"modified":"2022-08-16T12:03:57","modified_gmt":"2022-08-16T16:03:57","slug":"1136839_tax-credit-unlikely-to-return-for-these-evs-and-plug-in-hybrids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=29354","title":{"rendered":"The tax credit is unlikely to return for these EVs and plug-in hybrids"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">With President Biden signing the Inflation Reduction Act today, your time is nearly up to get your purchase paperwork completed for a new EV or plug-in hybrid.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong><strong\/><\/strong>While the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1136801_claim-the-7500-federal-ev-tax-credit-now-before-it-expires-for-2022\">revamped EV tax credit<\/a> contained in the bill includes many top-level provisions that are likely to set the supply chain up for more American-made EVs soon, the revamped tax credit in the short term will be taking bottom-line money away from many looking to purchase an EV or plug-in hybrid.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong><strong\/><\/strong>The tax credit knocks out higher-priced and luxury EVs, with a cap of $80,000 for vans, SUVs, and pickups, and a cap of $55,000 for passenger cars.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong><strong\/><\/strong>It also sets a maximum adjusted gross income (AGI) for those who can claim the credit, of $150,000 for single filers, $225,000 for heads of households, and $300,000 for joint filers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper first_wrapper\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100807855_m\" title=\"2022 Rivian R1T\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2022 Rivian R1T\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" class=\"first_image lazy\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"682\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2022-rivian-r1t_100807855_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/2022-rivian-r1t_100807855_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2022-rivian-r1t_100807855_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2022-rivian-r1t_100807855_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/2022-rivian-r1t_100807855_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/2022-rivian-r1t_100807855_s.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2022 Rivian R1T<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">There has been an exception on the eve of the new rule, which starts as soon as Biden signs: A binding purchase contract will grandfather in the old qualification terms. Fisker may have had the right idea in tying up orders for its Ocean One launch edition recently. And fellow startup electric vehicle makers Rivian and Lucid are among several brands that have flexed the rules a little bit in recent days to help make more orders binding.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong><strong\/><\/strong>The tax credit is almost certainly gone for the rest of 2022 and will be back at the beginning of 2023 for a smaller group of vehicles. There are domestic-content and supply-chain rules that need guidance from the Treasury Department, and automakers will shift to more U.S.-sourced batteries and components, but this won\u2019t happen overnight\u2014or even in a year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong><strong\/><\/strong>In the meantime, to keep this as simple as possible, we\u2019ve looked at price and final assembly location\u2014distilling the federal government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fueleconomy.gov\/feg\/taxevb.shtml\">current list of eligible vehicles<\/a> down in steps\u2014as a starting point for getting a realistic idea of which vehicles will be eligible in calendar year 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>FULLY ELECTRIC VEHICLES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p
