{"id":29367,"date":"2022-08-16T11:13:24","date_gmt":"2022-08-16T15:13:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=29367"},"modified":"2022-08-16T11:13:24","modified_gmt":"2022-08-16T15:13:24","slug":"ford-duke-energy-use-ford-f-150-lightning-power-grid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=29367","title":{"rendered":"Duke taps Ford F-150 Lightning energy to stabilize grid, flipping the &#8216;EVs break grid&#8217; script"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/guides\/ford\/\">Ford<\/a> and Duke Energy are planning to use F-150 Lightning batteries as backup energy storage to conserve energy use on the grid. <\/p>\n<p>Duke Energy, one of the largest utility companies with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.duke-energy.com\/our-company\/about-us\/businesses\/regulated-utilities#:~:text=Who%20We%20Are,%2C%20Ohio%2C%20Kentucky%20and%20Tennessee.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">over 7.4 million<\/a> customers in the Carolinas, Florida, Ohia, Kentucky, and Indiana, is filing a petition for a new pilot program with the North Carolina Utilities Commission. <\/p>\n<p>The new program intends to help lower vehicle lease payments for eligible EVs, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/guides\/ford-f-150-lightning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ford F-150 Lightning<\/a>. Meanwhile, utility customers will be able to use energy from their EVs to give back to the grid.<\/p>\n<p>The exchange will help stabilize the energy grid, helping to break the \u201cEVs are bad for the grid\u201d naysayers. New technology will allow for a two-way flow of energy to the EV and back to the grid. <\/p>\n<p>The program will start in the Carolinas, where Duke supports around 2.1 million energy users. The EV truck can store large amounts of energy, which makes it a perfect candidate for <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/guides\/vehicle-to-grid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vehicle-to-grid<\/a> (V2G) technology. <\/p>\n<p>Supplying energy back to the grid can help ease demand during peak usage. Furthermore, it expands renewable energy usage by utilizing untapped power. <\/p>\n<p>Ford\u2019s Chief Policy Officer and General Counsel, Steven Croley, claims:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"8\">\n<p>Ford\u2019s electric vehicles are unlocking new possibilities in energy management for our customers, becoming valuable energy storage sources that are changing the game on the benefits an EV can deliver.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In addition, he adds:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"10\">\n<p>Alongside Duke Energy, and our mutual customers, we\u2019re working to fine-tune and expand these capabilities that will not only power their lives, but also accelerate the development of a less carbon-intensive grid.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ford and Duke Energy are aggressively leading the charge for a sustainable future. For example, Ford announced the <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2022\/08\/10\/ford-dte-energy-largest-renewable-energy-purchase\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">largest renewable energy purchase<\/a> of its kind with DTE Energy last week, and Duke Energy is building a two-way smart grid to manage the flow of electricity from home to vehicle and back. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-electrek-s-take\">Electrek\u2019s Take<\/h2>\n<p>One of the biggest arguments against owning an EV looks to be crumbling.
