As more and more people adopt EVs, charging infrastructure is paramount. That said, many EV owners have shared that they&#8217;re not happy with the public charging situation as it stands. There simply aren&#8217;t enough charging stations, and oftentimes many aren&#8217;t working.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>JD Power says despite the fact that there there are more public charging stations than ever before, owners&#8217; satisfaction as a whole declined year over year.\u00a0<span>On the flip side, <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/tesla\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"2\" data-params=\"%7B%22alias%22%3A%22tesla%22%7D\">Tesla<\/a> owners tend to rave about the <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/tag\/tesla-supercharging\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"7\" data-params=\"%7B%22tag%22%3A%22Supercharger%22%2C%22originalTitle%22%3A%22tesla%20supercharging%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22tesla-supercharging%22%7D\">Supercharger<\/a> network thanks to its widespread locations, ease of use, and excellent reliability.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Executive director of global automotive at JD Power\u00a0<\/span><span>Brent Gruber shared:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"8\">\n<p><em><span>\u201cPublic charging continues to provide challenges to overall EV adoption and current EV owners alike. Not only is the availability of public charging still an obstacle, but EV owners continue to be faced with charging station equipment that is inoperable.&#8221;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>According to the study, Tesla&#8217;s Level 2 Destination chargers ranked the highest among all public Level 2 charging stations in the US. Tesla Destination scored 680 points on a 1,000-point scale, followed by Volta at 667 and <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/tag\/chargepoint\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"7\" data-params=\"%7B%22tag%22%3A%22ChargePoint%22%2C%22originalTitle%22%3A%22ChargePoint%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22chargepoint%22%7D\">ChargePoint<\/a> at 639. As you can see, the segment average is just 633.<\/span><\/p>\n<section class=\"trinity-skip-it\" contenteditable=\"false\" draggable=\"true\" data-widget=\"special_image\" data-align=\"center\">\n<div class=\"spi_wrapper\"><a class=\"lightzoom\" href=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/custom\/jd-power-charging-study-level-2.JPG\" rel=\"\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"custom-image\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/custom\/thumbnail\/jd-power-charging-study-level-2.JPG\" alt=\"external_image\" width=\"992\" height=\"831\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/a><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p><span>Meanwhile, Tesla&#8217;s Supercharger network also topped the charts, with a score of 739 out of 1,000. The average score for DC fast chargers is 674, and Tesla&#8217;s high score pushed that average up significantly. Notice that no other brand scored above the segment average, with ChargePoint at 644 and <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/tag\/electrify-america\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"7\" data-params=\"%7B%22tag%22%3A%22Electrify%20America%22%2C%22originalTitle%22%3A%22electrify%20america%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22electrify-america%22%7D\">Electrify America<\/a> at 614.<\/span><\/p>\n<section class=\"trinity-skip-it\" contenteditable=\"false\" draggable=\"true\" data-widget=\"special_image\" data-align=\"center\">\n<div class=\"spi_wrapper\"><a class=\"lightzoom\" href=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/custom\/jd-power-dc-fast-charging-study.JPG\" rel=\"\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"custom-image\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/custom\/thumbnail\/jd-power-dc-fast-charging-study.JPG\" alt=\"external_image\" width=\"978\" height=\"839\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/a><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>The JD Power study measures EV owners&#8217; satisfaction based on 10 factors:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ease of charging<\/li>\n<li>Speed of charging<\/li>\n<li>Cost of charging<\/li>\n<li>Ease of payment<\/li>\n<li>Ease of finding this location<\/li>\n<li>Convenience of this location<\/li>\n<li>Things to do while charging<\/li>\n<li>How safe you feel at this location<\/li>\n<li>Availability of chargers<\/li>\n<li>Physical condition of the charging location<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>JD Power adds that most owners are relatively satisfied with the ease of charging at both Level 2 and DC fast charging stations. However, the other nine categories brought the overall scores down. Public charging &#8220;<span>operability and maintenance&#8221; was one of the key concerns.
