{"id":29486,"date":"2022-08-17T19:06:11","date_gmt":"2022-08-17T23:06:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=29486"},"modified":"2022-08-17T19:06:11","modified_gmt":"2022-08-17T23:06:11","slug":"tesla-releases-rare-comment-media-report-executive-leaving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=29486","title":{"rendered":"Tesla releases rare comment denying media report&#8217;s claim an executive has left"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tesla has released a rare public comment denying a media report that claims an executive has left the company.<\/p>\n<p>Over the last few years, almost every article about Tesla you read includes some version of the phrase \u201cwe contacted Tesla for a comment, but the automaker has not responded.\u201d That\u2019s because the automaker has stopped commenting on media reports over the last two years after <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2020\/10\/06\/tesla-dissolves-pr-department\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">disbanding its press relations department<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But surprisingly, Tesla has taken to Twitter today to comment on a media report from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-08-17\/tesla-legal-chief-who-led-purchasing-probe-has-left-automaker?utm_medium=social&amp;cmpid=socialflow-twitter-business&amp;utm_content=business&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_campaign=socialflow-organic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Bloomberg<\/em><\/a> that claimed David Searle, Tesla\u2019s head of legal, had left the company:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignwide is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\" readability=\"6.375\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"6.8\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This Bloomberg article is false. David Searle has not left Tesla.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Tesla (@Tesla) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Tesla\/status\/1560014000632610827?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 17, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Tesla denied the report on Twitter despite <em>Bloomberg<\/em> claiming that three sources confirmed the news to them:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"11\">\n<p>David Searle left his position as Tesla\u2019s head of legal less than a month ago, according to three people familiar with the matter. Dinna Eskin, a deputy general counsel at the company, has taken over the role, the people said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The publication had reached out to Tesla prior to reporting, but the automaker didn\u2019t respond. <em>Bloomberg<\/em> has since modified the article to specify that Searle is not the head of legal at the company, which Tesla doesn\u2019t seem to deny, but the headline still claims that Searle has \u201cexited\u201d Tesla.<\/p>\n<p>The report also noted that Searle oversaw the investigation into <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2022\/07\/21\/elon-musk-losing-top-tesla-lieutenant-over-suspicious-order-special-glass\/\">the suspicious order of \u201cspecial glass<\/a>\u201d that reportedly resulted in several Tesla employees being fired. And, supposedly, Elon Musk\u2019s top lieutenant Omead Afshar is going to be next.<\/p>\n<p>That report was also from <em>Bloomberg<\/em> (but from a different reporter), and Tesla hasn\u2019t commented.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-electrek-s-take\">Electrek\u2019s Take<\/h2>\n<p>Man, I miss Tesla\u2019s PR department. This is one of those cases where it would have been useful. It looks like <em>Bloomberg<\/em> might be onto something about this, but they didn\u2019t get the full story.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla could have clarified the situation. Instead, <em>Bloomberg<\/em> posted an incomplete report and Tesla decided to correct it after the fact. <\/p>\n<p>But, the fact that the company commented on it at all is interesting because that hasn\u2019t happened in a long time. Are we seeing a glimpse of potential media relations coming back? Maybe.
