Cox Automotive recently reported that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/article\/new-car-average-transaction-price-record-high\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:0;\">average transaction price of a new car<\/a> crested $48,000 in July. It would follow, then, that credit monitoring agency Experian reported the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2022\/08\/25\/car-loans-record-debt-prices\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:1;\">average new car loan hit a record<\/a> $40,000 in Q2 of this year, the average monthly payment hitting $667 per month. You didn&#8217;t think <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/car-insurance\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">insurance<\/a> costs were going to be left behind, especially not with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhtsa.gov\/press-releases\/early-estimates-first-quarter-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">car crashes hitting 20-year highs<\/a>, eh? Bill pay service <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesswire.com\/news\/home\/20220824005118\/en\/Cost-of-Car-Ownership-in-the-U.S.-Increases-5-as-the-Average-American-Household-Now-Spends-Over-600-a-Month-on-Auto-Loans-and-Insurance-Combined\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">Doxo surveyed monthly auto loan<\/a> and <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/car-insurance\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">auto insurance<\/a> payments across 97% of U.S. zip codes to assess the fixed cost of car ownership. It found that the average household with <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/car-insurance\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">car and insurance<\/a> bills spends $433 on a <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/loans\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\">car loan<\/a> \u2014 this includes new and used vehicles \u2014 and another $196 on auto insurance, for a total outlay of $629 per month.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That works out to $7,548 per year for homes with both bills, 5% above the fixed <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/cars-compare\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">cost of ownership<\/a> in 2021. And that&#8217;s before factoring in prices of fuel and other commodities, regular maintenance and <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/auto-repair\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">repairs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The stats broke down costs by state and city as well. It could be a surprise that Doxo found the five most expensive states to own a car are bracketed by Wyoming, with an average spend of $818 per month, and Hawaii, with an average spend of $687 per month. The list of the five most expensive cities fits with what one would expect, New York City at the top with a $994 monthly spend, Atlanta, Georgia at number five with an average $724 monthly spend.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Doxo&#8217;s VP of marketing and consumer services, Jim Kreyenhagen, said, &#8220;The last few years created a bit of a perfect storm to increase the cost of car ownership across the category.
