Although the upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1132740_2024-honda-prologue-gm-powered-electric-suv-has-a-name\">Honda Prologue<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1136873_acura-zdx-first-electric-vehicle-type-s-performance\">Acura ZDX<\/a> electric vehicles will be based on General Motors\u2019 Ultium battery ecosystem and separate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1134832_report-gm-plans-more-michigan-ev-assembly-battery-plant\">Ultium Cells LLC joint venture<\/a> with LG, future Honda EVs will be built on Honda\u2019s own EV architecture, said to be arriving in the first vehicles in 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">It appears the joint venture will fit right in with that timeline. The two companies plan to start construction\u2014at a location not yet announced\u2014in early 2023, with the start of mass production for cells by the end of 2025.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Honda president and CEO Toshihiro Mibe said that the move is \u201caligned with our longstanding commitment to build products close to the customer.\u201d Honda assembles many of its vehicles for the U.S. in North America\u2014including engines.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper\" readability=\"7\"><img decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100599393_m\" title=\"2017 Honda Clarity Electric\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2017 Honda Clarity Electric\" width=\"640\" height=\"404\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"646\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2017-honda-fcx-clarity_100599393_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/2017-honda-fcx-clarity_100599393_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2017-honda-fcx-clarity_100599393_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2017-honda-fcx-clarity_100599393_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/2017-honda-fcx-clarity_100599393_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/2017-honda-fcx-clarity_100599393_s.jpg\" class=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2017 Honda Clarity Electric<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The move also fits with the much stricter raw materials and supply-chain requirements to be put in place as part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1136859_irs-2022-ev-phev-tax-credit-american-made\">eligibility for the EV tax credit<\/a> and its reboot set in motion by the recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1136801_claim-the-7500-federal-ev-tax-credit-now-before-it-expires-for-2022\">Inflation Reduction Act<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The companies did not confirm any similarities or differences between the Ultium Cells LLC products and those from the future Honda-LG venture.
