Extraordinary times demand extraordinary measures. I do think we actually need more oil and gas for civilization to function. But simultaneously moving fast to a sustainable energy economy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Musk still believes that solar and energy storage should dominate the energy market to achieve sustainability, but he does realize that fossil fuels are needed until it can be achieved.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignwide is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"post-youtube-video\" title=\"Elon Musk Stavanger Norway ONS 2022\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Puk1doe4kvw?feature=oembed&amp;rel=0&amp;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\">[embedded content]<\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>He made similar comments about more nuclear power, but the full quote is about nuclear power that makes sense: <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"6\">\n<p>If you have a well-designed nuclear plant, you should not shut it down \u2014 especially right now.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Nuclear power makes sense for the environment if it can both operate safely and have safe disposal of nuclear waste.<\/p>\n<p>It indeed makes sense to keep the plants that fit this description going, especially in Europe amid the energy crisis since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-electrek-s-take\">Electrek\u2019s Take<\/h2>\n<p>I think his comment was overblown.
