{"id":30606,"date":"2022-09-01T12:04:11","date_gmt":"2022-09-01T16:04:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=30606"},"modified":"2022-09-01T12:04:11","modified_gmt":"2022-09-01T16:04:11","slug":"1137013_toyota-commits-additional-2-5b-for-new-us-battery-plant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=30606","title":{"rendered":"Toyota commits additional $2.5B for new US battery plant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Toyota on Wednesday announced an additional $2.5 billion investment in its planned battery plant in Liberty, North Carolina, to expand capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Toyota <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1133932_toyota-commits-3-4b-to-us-battery-production-plans-first-plant-in-north-carolina\">first announced plans<\/a> for the plant last December, stating at the time it would invest $1.3 billion in the plant&#8217;s construction to create 1,750 jobs.<\/p>\n<p>With Wednesday&#8217;s announcement, the total planned investment in the site rises to $3.8 billion. Toyota predicts that by 2030 around 70% of its sales will be electrified vehicles, which includes hybrid vehicles, battery-electric vehicles, and hydrogen-electric vehicles. To meet this target, Toyota plans to offer 70 electrified vehicles by as early as 2025, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1131247_toyota-reveals-a-dozen-evs-including-sports-car-pickup-and-fj-cruiser-like-model\">15 of these to be powered by batteries<\/a>. Of the 15, seven will be from the new BZ family of EVs, the first member of which is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1134013_2023-toyota-bz4x-price-specs-review-photos-info\">BZ4X compact crossover<\/a>. The second member is expected to be a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1136987_toyota-bz3-revealed\">BZ3 compact sedan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Toyota is one of a handful of established automakers planning battery plants in the U.S. to power future EVs.
