{"id":30723,"date":"2022-09-03T00:04:00","date_gmt":"2022-09-03T04:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=30723"},"modified":"2022-09-03T00:04:00","modified_gmt":"2022-09-03T04:04:00","slug":"1137046_gm-willing-to-buy-out-us-buick-dealers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=30723","title":{"rendered":"GM willing to buy out US Buick dealers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>General Motors will offer buyouts to U.S. Buick dealers who don&#8217;t want to make investments related to the brand&#8217;s all-electric transition, the head of Buick said in an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/gm-to-offer-franchise-buyouts-to-u-s-buick-dealers-11662129950?st=g0lhm7qh7x5eq1h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a> published Friday.<\/p>\n<p>All of Buick&#8217;s roughly 2,000 dealerships will be given an opportunity to take a buyout, Global Buick boss Duncan Aldred said in the interview. A similar program for Cadillac begun in 2020 and completed last year reduced the luxury brand&#8217;s dealer network <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1130408_more-than-one-third-of-cadillac-dealerships-bail-on-brand-s-electric-future\">by about one-third<\/a>, to approximately 560 dealers. Shifting to all-EV sales also requires dealers to invest in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?client=internal-element-cse&amp;cx=652055e23533417e3&amp;q=https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1133974_gm-is-looking-to-its-dealerships-to-deploy-destination-chargers-in-communities&amp;sa=U&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjE9oD90vb5AhUVD1kFHZD8Ac0QFnoECAEQAg&amp;usg=AOvVaw3I54JhpuIarQ3Tq2Rc2EWt\">charging hardware<\/a> and additional staff training, while limiting potential revenue from regular maintenance, which EVs require less of than internal-combustion vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Both Buick and Cadillac plan to sell only electric vehicles by 2030. Buick doesn&#8217;t currently sell any EVs in the U.S., but will release its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1136029_buick-wildcat-ev-concept-previews-electra-ev\">first U.S.-market EV in 2024<\/a>.
