{"id":31830,"date":"2022-09-20T09:03:58","date_gmt":"2022-09-20T13:03:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=31830"},"modified":"2022-09-20T09:03:58","modified_gmt":"2022-09-20T13:03:58","slug":"1124414_bugatti-cautious-on-more-practical-vehicle-for-second-model-line","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=31830","title":{"rendered":"Bugatti cautious on more practical vehicle for second model line"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bugatti has been toying with the idea of a second, more practical model line for more than a decade, with the company even previewing a potential sedan in 2009 with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1032517_new-images-of-2009-bugatti-galibier-16c-concept\">Galibier 16C concept<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Under the reign of former chief Stephan Winkelmann, Bugatti&#8217;s focus was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1118976_high-riding-bugatti-not-ruled-out\">centered on an SUV-like vehicle<\/a> as the second model line, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1126260_bugatti-ceo-the-combustion-engine-is-the-real-state-of-the-art-powertrain\">one powered by batteries<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, things have taken a turn since Bugatti&#8217;s merger last fall with the hypercar division of electric vehicle technology company Rimac, to form the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1134042_new-company-bugatti-rimac-starts-operations\">new company Bugatti Rimac<\/a> led by Rimac CEO and founder Mate Rimac.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-news\/new-cars\/bugatti-shelves-electric-suv-focus-more-exclusive-cars\"><em>Autocar<\/em><\/a> published on Tuesday, Achim Anscheidt, Bugatti&#8217;s design chief, said the brand is now concerned a more practical, higher volume model could dilute the exclusivity of Bugatti.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper first_wrapper\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100749726_m\" title=\"Achim Anscheidt\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"Achim Anscheidt\" width=\"640\" height=\"392\" class=\"first_image lazy\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"628\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/achim-anscheidt_100749726_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/achim-anscheidt_100749726_l.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/achim-anscheidt_100749726_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/achim-anscheidt_100749726_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/achim-anscheidt_100749726_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/achim-anscheidt_100749726_s.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Achim Anscheidt<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe always had an idea of what a second model line could be,\u201d he said. \u201cBut then we were also [thinking] at one point, are you starting to sell out the brand?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anscheidt didn&#8217;t completely rule out the idea, however. He said if Bugatti were too launch a model with higher volumes, then it would require the hypercar line to become even more exclusive to ensure some balance between the two.<\/p>\n<p>Winkelmann&#8217;s predecessor, Wolfgang Duerheimer, revealed in 2016 that four options were on the table for Bugatti&#8217;s second model line: a sedan, SUV, EV, and more attainable supercar. Given the trend toward SUVs, with even Ferrari launching one earlier in September <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1137143_ferrari-purosangue-price-reveal\">in the form of the Purosangue<\/a>\u2014a high-riding Bugatti makes a lot of sense.<\/p>\n<p>Bugatti has plenty of time to decide as Mate Rimac in an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.automobilwoche.de\/bc-online\/nur-sportwagen-bugatti-halt-am-verbrenner-fest\"><em>Automobilwoche<\/em><\/a> (subscription required) published earlier in September said there would be no Bugatti SUV or EV within the next 10 years. He has previously said Bugatti is focused on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1135180_bugatti-ceo-says-next-hypercar-will-be-a-hybrid\">hybrid powertrains for its next chapter<\/a>, though the current quad-turbo 8.0-liter W-16 engine first introduced with the Veyron won&#8217;t stick around.
